DETERMINATION

SUBJECT: DESIGN REVIEW NO. 5040-21 AND MINOR SITE PLAN
REVIEW NO. 1045-21 – HILBERT MUSEUM OF
CALIFORNIA ART
PROPERTY
LOCATION: 167 N. Atchison Street/190 N. Cypress Street
REQUEST: A proposal for the renovation of two existing buildings to
accommodate museum expansion and ancillary uses, partial
conversion of the existing parking area into a new open-air
courtyard open to public, and installation of new landscape,
hardscape, and public art and light well elements.
DATE OF
ACTION: The Interim Community Development Director approved Design
Review No. 5040-21, and Minor Site Plan Review No. 1045-21
subject to findings and conditions of approval on November 10,
2021. Prior to the decision, on October 6, 2021 the Design Review
Committee recommended approval to the Interim Community
Development Director with recommendations and conditions of
approval.
ENVIRONMENTAL
INFORMATION: The proposed project is categorically exempt from the provisions of
the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) per State CEQA
Guidelines 15301 (Class 1 - Existing Facilities) because the project
consists of modifications to existing commercial buildings and
landscaping, consistent with the property’s zoning and General Plan
designation.
