DRB No. 3239
Three Day Blinds
1273 N. Tustin Street
Ultraneon Sign Corporation
New wall signs for retail store
C-TR (Commercial -Tustin Street
Redevelopment) District.
The project was presented by Jerry Murdock -Ultraneon Sign Corp., Brent Ryhlick -Three Day
Blinds, and Mick Meldrum - LC.I Development Company. Building permit has already been
obtained for 2 wall signs on this building, one each at the northwest and northeast corner (45
degree angle) elevations of the building. The proposal is to install 2 additional signs along the
north and west elevations.
The DRB raised concern with the allowable square footage for signage along each of the 4
building elevations. It appears that only one additional wall sign may be allowed on either the
north or the west building elevations, but not both. The applicant has the option of installing one
addition wall sign on the elevation of their choice.
MOTION by Steve Prothero to approve the project subject to the following conditions:
One additional wall sign is approved for a total of 3 wall signs on this building . The sign
along Katella Avenue (west elevation) shall be deleted.
The wall signs shall be installed minimum of 8 inches from the top, and 4 inches from the
bottom of the vertical fascia area.
Exposed transformer is not permitted.

Orange Circle Auto Sales

Thomas Maxwell
New wall sign for existing commercial
buildings
C-2 (General Business) District, Old Towne
Mr. Thomas Maxwell, Owner of the business, presented the project to the DRB. The proposal is
to install 24 inches high individual letters along the east building wall to identify the used car
sales business. The sign reads "Orange Circle Auto Sales * 639-2000". Also proposed is the
painting of red stripes across the building to emulate the designs of pre-1940 service station
buildings. The design was influenced from picture illustrations found in a book called "Pump
and Circumstance".
The DRB expressed concerns with the use telephone numbers on the sign because it creates
clutter. Also the painted stripes on the building should be modified with more detail to better
emulated the design of pre-1940 service stations.
MOTION by Steve Prothero to approve the project subject to the following conditions:
1. In lieu of Windsor Bold, sign lettering shall be changed to Helvetica or Helvetica Bold
(without serif ). Sign face and returns shall be painted black.
2. Delete telephone numbers
3. Upper striping shall be painted red (Fire Engine Red), with the 2 alternatives as indicated on
Exhibit "I"
4. Base striping shall be painted black, 18 inches in height, with a one inch wide top stripe and
3/4 inch gap as indicated on Exhibit "II".
