A motion was made by Rick Cavecche to approve the September 23, 1998 minutes with the
following revisions:

DRB #3347 (Western Union), page 4, paragraph 2, sentence 2 added as follows:
The Board also noted that there are numerous existing illegal signs that are placed on the
building and on the store front windows.
DRB #3355_(Rosalyn Holland), paiparag_raph 2, sentences 1 through 5: added as follows:
The DRB had extensive discussions with the applicant regarding the proposed use of masonite
siding in lieu of wood. One of the primary concern is the exterior corner treatment detail.
Traditionally, wood siding may have a mitered exterior corner that cannot be achieved with
masonite siding. This often results in a compromised design such as the use of metal or wood
corner trims. Although the board has provided the applicant with a distinctive detail of a corner
trim treatment as an alternative design, the board strongly prefers the use of real wood siding
with a mitered corner finish.

3. Extend out the porch base level to encapsulate the stair edges and railings on both sides
DRB #3366 (Scott McBride), page 8, condition 7 amended as follows:
7. Roofing material to be ` dark, heavy profile composition shingles.

New freestanding sign for an existing retail
business
C-1 (Limited Business) District
The project was presented by the owners Atef and Mervat Kamel. The proposal is to install a
new freestanding sign to identify an existing retail glass business at this location. The sign is
made of plywood mounted on two 3" diameter steel posts.
The DRB suggest that an edge band be added so that the sign does not appear unfinished.
Tim McCormack stated that the sign appeared like a temporary sign and therefore he could not
support the project.
MOTION by Rick Cavecche to approve the project with the following conditions:
1. Sign background to be white with black text.
2. Sign post may be 3" diameter steel post, or 4" x 4" wood post.
3. Provide edge band to encase the sign perimeter on all sides, including top and bottom.
