The regufar meeting of the Orange Public Library Baerd of Trustees was cailed to order at 4:30 p.m. by Chairman Tom Saenz In the Community Room of the Main Library. Present: Trustees Gorhem, McEwan, and Saenz. Also present, Eugenla Wong, Head of Technical Servlces; Karen A. Leo, Library Director; and Sheila Gannon, Administrative Secretary. Absent: Trustees �ourtney end Way II . Trustee Gorham moved that the minutes af the November 1fl meeting be approved as presented. Seconded by Trustee McEwan. Motlan carrled. Trustee McEwan moved that the minutes of the October 30 Joint Meeting with the Board of Directors of the Frlends of the tlrange Publlc Library be approved ae presented. Seconded by Trustee Garham. Motion carrled. III . The financial report was dfscussed and Trustee Gorham requested clarification of the percentages. IV. The Library Dfrector 's Report was dlscussed and the consensus was that ft was a very good report. V. Legisiative Update A. Workshop on Legisiative Process Director Leo stated that registration for the CLA Government Relatlons Commfttee workshop, "Libraries and the Politicsl Process: How to Make It Work for You, " must be In by January 2. PLA Conference Registration for the PLA Conference to be held in San Diego must be !n by December 30. Directar Leo noted that Thur�day, March 21 , and Friday, March 2t, will be trustee-oriente�. She said the schedule was inciuded in the psckets so that the trustees cauld see what Is being offered. F. White House Conference on Library & Information Services Director Leb encouraged the trugtees to spply e� candidstes to attend the conference. Vil . New Buslnese There was no new business. Vlii . Announcements A. Main Library Manager Recruitment Director Leo announced that there were over 28 applicants far the Main Library Manager pasition and there will be approximately ten to interview. The interviews will take place on January 3 and we shou{d have someone hired by early February. S. �aft Asbestos Removal The Taft Branch Library was closed on Saturday, December 15, for removal of asbestos In two areas. The crew didn' t finieh the jab and {eft the Library a mess. Haweuer, due ta the efforts of the staft and Generai Services, the Library opened on time in spite af the adverse conditions. C. EI Modena Renovation Director Leo said it is hoped that there will be enough money to recarpet, paint and buy a new circuiation desk and ne� reference desk at EI Modena Branch. She said the bid for the carpeting has been awarded and the cost 1s approximately �44,�00. Bath Taft Branch and EI Modena Branch are to be reroofed.
