MINUTES
August 17 , 1987
I . The regular maeting of the drange Public Library Board of Trustees
was called to order at 4:33 p.m. by Chairwoman Way at the EI Modena
Branch Library. '
Present: Trust��s Courtney, Gorham, f�cEwan, Saenz and Way. Also
present, Karen R. �.eo, Library �irector ; Joan Biumenstein, Children's
Librarian; Barbara Brotherton, Br�ncr Manager ; and ShQila Gannon,
Secretary ta the Library Cirector .
I � . TrustPe Gorham moved and Trustee Courtrey secended a mctier, to
approv� the minutes of tha July ZC, ��07 , ���eetin�, rfotion carried.
III . The L.ibrary Directar 's monthly report was reviewed an� discussed.
Barbara Brotherton and ?rustee Saen� re,r,arted on tne �uccess of the
program in har,or of the Mayor of (�ueretaro, Mexico, which was neld on
July 2. They noted that both Nora Jecob, Pres"ident of the Friend� of
the Orange Public Lib''81'V, and !�uth Evans, member o` the Orange
Unified School Board , spoke to t�he assemblage in Spanish. Barbara
also r�marked on th� excellent presentat ;ons made t�y th� students
from Queretaro.
Trustee Saenz Said he and his wife took a group of 17 students from
Qrange on a five-week taur of Mexiro an� spent tw� weeks in Queretaro
where they stayed in the I-�ames of the �luerEtaro students who had
vi� ited Orange. Trus�ee Saenz nrought back with him two boxes of
books which wer� sent as a gift to vr�,nc�e Public Library from thE
City of Gtueretaro.
IV. Director Leo announced that the re�,art co the City Council on the
potential funding frcm the County for a Main Library facility is on
the �genda for the August 19 C�uncil Meeting, and she urged th�
Trustees to attend.

boa�s r�ad at �he EI Mvden� Branch and �h� total �t the Mai� Library
h�� incr�a��d by about 6,0�4 bo��s. T�i� year, stati�tics in�rea���
toward th� end of th� pr�gram instead �f d�cre�sin� �s in past
, y�ars. �h� ��id t��re hav� been many po�itive corr�nents from
p�rent�. Al�n, she s�id the Chiidren's �e�ti�� h�s been req�est�d ta
s�nd the �c�oQl� a llst af th� nam�s �f ahildre� wha hav�
partfcip�ted 1� �he �urra�er Re�ding �rogram. She s��t�d that the

due to the fact that Director Leo wiii be on vacation, Motion carried.
