Present: Trustees Courtney, Gorham, McEwan, Saenz and Way. Also present, Taft Branch Manager, Hazel Wang, Director Karen A. Leo and Sheila Gannon, Secretary to the Library Director The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as received. Reports Presented and Discussed: The Library Director's monthly report was reviewed and discussed. It was noted that the videocassette program has been well received at Main, and both branches will be instituting their programs very soon. ?Zaren Leo reported that interviews will be held on Wednesday, January 21, for the Librarian II position at laft Tsranch. She stated that there are about ten candidates, of whom two are from out of state. Director Leo introduced the topic of library expansion and stated that the killefer Park site has been proposed as one possibility. Trustee Saenz offered to obtain a copy of the school district plans for future growth so that the Board might take that into consideration when cnaking a decision on the location of a new main library. Trustee McEwan suggested that the Board take a field trip to see what might be available as a site. It was moved by Trustee Way and seconded by Trustee Gorham that the Boara follow this suggestion. Motion carried. The trustees agreed to meet at 4 p.m. on February 23 at El Modena Branch for the purpose of touring East Chapman Avenue. Karen asked for the Board's support of the Service to the Homebound program. She stated that Nora Jacob, President of the Friends of the Orange Public Library, will attend the next Board meeting to explain the intentions of the proposed program. Director Leo reported that the retrospective conversion contract with OCLC has been signed. Terminals are expected to arrive about February 13 and training will begin shortly thereafter. The RFP to hire a library automa- tion consultant is being issued today. There are three phases involved. Karen said the li�brary wi11 pay �or the attendance of any Board member who wan�s to at�Cend the workshop on library leadership sponsore�. by CALTAC in Carlsbad on March 7, 1987. Karen. explained tha� th.e :i3rown Act Amendments affec�G all meetings of Council- appointed commissions and boards as well as City Council itself. It is stated in the Sta:te Code that library boards are subjec�t td �the �3rown Act.. Karen noted that if a trustee has a matter which he or �he wishes to discuss that might possibly include �c�arc� action, it must be p.ut on the agenda.
