I. The regular meetinq ❑f the Or�nge F'ublic Libr�ry L�oard of Tr��stee�
was c�lled to arder at 4:'S p.m. by Trustee McEw�n �t the M�in
Library.
F'resent: Trustees Co�irtney, Gorh�m, C1cEw�n, 5aen� and W�y. Also
present, F�::aren A. Leo, Library I3ire�tor; and Sheil� Gannan,
Secretary tq the Libr�ry Director-.
II. The minutes of April ���, 1987, and M�y 18, 1987, were approved �s
received.
III. The Library Directo� 's monthly report was reviewed �nd disc�.tssed.
IV. F'ersonnei �hanges were noted.
V. Director Leo anna��n�ed that Trustees Ca��rtney and Saen: were
re�ppointed #or- � three-year- term.
VI. E��ction af officers was held. Tri�stee Gourtney naminated Tr�.istee
W�y as Ch�i�person for i987/88, seconded by Trustee Gorham.
Tru�tee Gorh�m was nominated �s Vice Chairperson by Tr��stee McEw�n
and seconded by Trustee Saen�. A ��nanimous ballet was cast far
both pasitivns.
VII. Director Leo reported that M�yor pro tem Don 5mith spoEce ❑ut strongly
against the Library's memhership 'in SLS at a st�.�dy' sessian for the
FY 87I88 budget. He �uggested that the Lihr�ry might hecome part of
the Or�nge County F'��bl i c Li hrary System so the Co�.�nty wa�.{1 d f und
construction of a new lib��ry building. A discussian tooF: place with
the consensus being that many henefits would be lost by this mave.

library juri�diction. Council ha� requested a r-epor-t by August iith
af pos:�i b 1 e w�y� to recei ve f und� f rom the County f or- con�tructi on of
a n�w Main Library. �
VIII. Director Leo r-epor-ted that Legislative Day went well with the
exception of the schedul.ed meeting with Assemblyman Lewis. She
stated that Nora J�cob, �'resident of the Friend� of the Orange
F'ublic Libr�ry, had written a l�tter to Tom Fuentes, Chairman of
the Republican Party of Clr�nge County, to express her. feel�.ngs in
regard to the way �he, N'ar-en Lea �nd Pat Power o# Yor-ba Li nda f�ubl i c
Li brary wer-e r-ecei ued at the A�semb 1 yman's of f i ce. .
� IX. Uirector Leo made the following announcements:

A. The public hearing for the 1987/88 budget will take place ' �
tcamorrow, June 1b:, at 7 p.m. , and she encour-aged the E�oard
members ta attend.

that, at the present time, he didn't want 'to mak:e any changes in �
the Libr�r-y's f ine5 and fees schedule. ,

regard to Service to the Homebound: ane requesting volunteers,

I�. A meeting of the Hi�panic Library Advi�or-y Committee w�s held
with the �QU'�D EngliSh �� a Second L�nguage (E�Ly teacher-s , �
and the bilingual teacher�. She said it was a very fr-uitful
meet i ng. hie�:t event i� � prcagr-�m �t the E1 Moden� E�r�nch Li brary �

F. Director Leo will be on v�cation from July 1 through July 10.
Margaret Donnell�n will be in charge in her absence.
G. Because of a short meeting, the Authors in the Schools videotape
scheduled to be shown at this meeting will be shown at the next
meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 5: 15 p.m.
Next Library board meeting will be on Monday, July 2G, 4:3U p.m. at the Main
Library.
