I. The regular meeting af the Or�nge Public Library E�oard of Trustees
was called to order at 4:�_�5 p.m. by Trustee Way at the Main
Libr�ry.
F'resent: Trustees Courtney, Gorham, Saenz and Way. Also present,
Karen A. Leo, Library Director; Sheila G�nnon, Secretary
to the Library Director; and Andre� Dietze, Library,
Science �tudent �t UCLA.
Absent: T'rustee McEwan
II. The minutes of the previo��s meeting were �ppraved �s received.
• III. The Litarary Director's monthly report was reviewed and discussed.
IV. Fersonnel �h�nges were noted.
V. A. Director Leo said retrnspective conversion is going very well.
Adult non-fiction will prob�bly he finished in about two weeb;s.
B. I��ren Leo stated that Peat, Marwick, Mitchell ��c Company have
been awarded the libr�ry �utomation consult�nt contract. She
said they have more e;;perience in worl�ing with libr�ries and
have li.br�ri�ns on their staff. In addition, they ��ibmitted
the law bid. Their corporate office is located in San
Francisco, but they also have �n Orange County office.
VI, Y�:aren reported on mid-year budget req�iests.
Co«ncil has approved �2,�7s7U for E1 Modena E�ranch ta realign their
shelving in the j��venile are�. ThiS will be done in canjunction
with str�etching the carpet so that moving all of the books and the
shelving will ❑nly have to be done once. This wi11 necessitate
that the library be closed a weel�, �nd the re�ommended period is
from May 18 through M�y 25, F'�sblicity is planned for the
newspapers, alI three libr�ries and cablevision. It was moved by
Trustee Courtney and seconded by Trustee Saenz that the E1 hlodena
ti�anch Library may be closed fr-om May 18 through May �5 for carpet
stretching and shelving rearrangements. Motion c�rried.

k;aren Leo st�ted that the Friends will be planting a tree at
each of the libr�ries in celebratian of the L�icentennial of
the Canstitution. Essay contests wili be held and the winners
will read their essays at the tree plantings.
It was announced that George Gorham had an article puhlished
in the Masonic magazine, "New Age. " The F�oard extended their
congratulation� ta George on this accomplishment.
