i�1INUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING
December 16, 1985
lhe regular meeting of the Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Trustee
Courtney at 4:30 p.m.
Present: Trustees Courtney, Gorham, McEwan, Saenz, Way. Also present, Karen Leo,
Library Director.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as received.
Reports Presented and Discussed:
The Library Director's monthly report �aas read, discussed and accepted. Karen explained
the changes in personnel assignments. � The drop in circulation was questione� Karen
felt the decrease was partially due to lower buying power. Trustee Gorham comm.ented
on the crowded parlcing conditions during peak hours.
There was no Finance Dir�ctor's report.
�ld iiusiness:
Trustee Courtney reported on the City Council meeting about a site study for the Main
Library expansion. Ee also explained how Orange County Supervisor Clark had assisted
during the proposed building of the El Niodena Branch. A discussion followed. �:aren
thankea each Trustee for attending the Council meeting on November 26th which indicated
to Council their support of the site study. The Ci.ty Manager has asked that Karen
put the expansion of the Main Library in her five year Capital Improvement Plan.
i:aren presented a draft policy which stated those who should receive fine exempt status.
Nioved by Trustee McEwan, seconded by Trustee Gorham to accept the fine exempt policy
as presented. Motion carried. (Please see � Draft Policy attached.)
l:.aren announced the CALTAC Regional Workshop in Library Leadership on Saturday, Ja.nuary
25, 1�86 at 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Huntington �each Public Library and encouraged
Trustees to attend. She plans to attend the workshop with any Trustees who are interested.
Karen willbe a guest on the Mayor's `Slice of Orange' television show on January L0,
1�86 at 7; 30 p.m. and on January 23 at 7:00 p.m.
Tae t:leeting adjourned at 5:20 p.m. and a holiday potluck was enjoyed.
The next ;neeting; January 20, 1986 at 4:30 p.m. at Taft Branch Library.
