Present: Trustees Courtney, NlcEwan, Saenz, Way and Director Leo. Also present, Hazel Wang, Taft Branch Manager; Karen �lan, Circulation Supervisor, Main Library. Absent: Trustee Gorham The Board welcomed newly appointed Trustee Nancy Way who replaces Leone Tavis. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as mailed. Reports Presented and Discussed: Library Monthly Report was accepted. There was no Finance Report. Agenda Items; Moved by Trustee Saenz, seconded by Trustee McEwan that Trustee Courtney serve as Chairperson for the curren.t year. Motion carried. Moved by Trustee Saenz, seconded by Trustee Way that Trustee McEwan serve as Vice Chairperson for the current year, Tlotion carried. Upon a suggestion from Library Director Karen Leo, each Trustee introduced themselves and gave a brief biography. The revised 'Rules of t3ehavior' were distributed for .the Board's comments. Following discussion, Trustee McEwan moved, seconded by Trustee Courtney to accept the revised 'Rules of Behavior' for the library, Motion carried. Director Leo announced the resignation of Mary Ellen 0'Neill as representative to the Santiago Library System Advisory Board. She recommended the appointment of Nora Jacob. Nfoved by Trustee Way, seconded by Trustee Courtney to accept the recommendation and present it to City Council for appointment. Motion carried. Orange Public Library Board Minutes August 19, 1985 Director Leo explained the Governor's 1985 Public Library Fund appropriation estimating approximately $78,000 for the Orange Public Library, which exceeds the original $65,200 anticipated. It was recommended that $4,437 be used to buy an additional book theft detection gate for the parking 1ot entrance to the Main Library. A letter will be sent to Council with this recommendation. Copies of the Library Director's building standards report to the City Manager were distributed. the building recommendations, proposed new structure and acquisition of adjacent properties were discussed. A letter will be sent to Council supporting acquisition of the 146 North Shaffer Street property. Director Leo announced Hazel Wang had been named Employee of the Month for August. Congratulations were expressed. Hazel reported on the Taft Library landscaping stating, "Everything looks good," Announcements: Bids for roofing the second half of the Main Library will be accepted by the General Services Department in late August. Director Leo gave a presentation at a Chamber of Commerce Gommittee meeting. The September issue of the Chamber`s newsletter will feature a column about the business information sources in the librarye Director Leo announced the Orange 2000 Town Hall meetings to be held October 24th and 26th. She serves on the Orange 2000 Cultural/Educational/Social Welfare Committee, Brochures were distributed to Board members about a workshop at UCI on Saturday, October 26th on 'Becoming a More Effective Board Member, ' Director Leo explained the Library Construction and Renovation Bond Act (SB 1220) and stressed the need for letters of support. Trustee McEwan asked if a final accounting of Centennial monies had been sent to Council, and recommended doing so if it had not been donem Trustee McEwan shared a letter from Marjorie Salter, widow of former Trustee Ed Salter. Director Leo announced there would be a 'Banned Boak Display' during the first fu�l week in September.
