I. CALL TO ORDER 1.
1 Pledge of Allegiance Trustee Cavecche led
the Pledge of Allegiance.
1.2 Roll Call The regular meeting of the Orange Public Library
Board of Trustees was called to order at 3:30 p.m., in the Main Library,
101 North Center Street.Present:Trustees Massa, Cavecche,
Schlund, Warne and Westfall.1.
3 Adoption of Agenda Trustee Warne moved that the agenda be adopted
as presented. Trustee
Schlund seconded. Motion carried.1.
4 Approval of Minutes Regular Board Meeting
Held July 17,2000 Trustee Schlund moved that the minutes be adopted
as presented. Trustee
Westfall seconded. Motion carried.Special Board Meeting Held
of July 27, 2000 Trustee Warne moved that the minute be adopted
as presented. Trustee Westfall seconded. Trustee
Cavecche abstained. Motion

III. BOARD REPORTS
3.1 Reports from Chair Massa
There were no reports from Chair Massa.
3.2 Reports from Trustees
Trustee Westfall reminded the Board he would still like to arrange a tour for them of the
Redlands Public Library.
IV. COMMUNITY & LIBRARY SERVICES DIRECTOR'S REPORT
4.1 Director's Report of July, 2000
Director's Report was included in Trustees' packets.
4.2 Legislative Update
There was no legislative information included in Trustees' packet and Director Wann had
no new information for the Board.
4.3 Financial Report
Financial Report was included in Trustees' packets.
V. DEPARTMENT REPORTS
5.1 City Librarian Recruitment
A Special Meeting was held on August 28, 2000, wherein Trustees met and interviewed
the two City Librarian candidates. The Board expressed their appreciation being allowed
to participate in this process and questioned Director Wann the next step in the
recruitment process. Mr. Wann reported that one candidate had dropped out of the
process and the City was currently in negotiations with the other candidate. Director
Wann will advise the Board when that process has been completed.
5.2 Orange Public Library Foundation
Director Wann advised Trustees that the search for members for the foundations Board of
Directors is continuing. Several people have already committed to serve on the
Foundation and the Director and Consultant are very pleased with the selections. Their
efforts to complete the Board of Directors is continuing and Director Wann will keep
them advised.

5.3 Library of California
Interim Library Services Manager Yolanda Moreno reported to Trustees that the next step
in the process would be a presentation to City Manager David L. Rudat. With Mr.
Rudat's approval, a presentation would then be made to the City Council. Ms. Moreno
and Mr. Wann will make an appointment to meet with the City Manager to inform him of
this project
5.4 Library Board Development Project
Administrative Secretary Ian McGovney has been in contact with a representative from
the California State Library in charge of the Library Board Development Project. Of the
two dates available, Saturday, November 4, 2000, at Main Library was chosen for
Trustees to attend this workshop. Ms. McGovney will finalize plans with the California
State Library and advises Trustees.
VI. NEW BUSINESS
6.1 Bank of America Parking During International Street Faire and Closing of Main
Library on Saturday, September 2, 2000
Included in Trustees' packet was the staff report to City Council re this agenda item.
Director Wann informed Trustees that proceeds from this "fund raiser" would be divided
between the Community Services Foundation and Library Foundation. Trustee
Cavecche moved that the Main Library be closed on Saturday, September 2,2000 in
order for staff to rent parking places at the library to International Street Faire attendees.
Trustee Schlund seconded the motion. Motion carried.
6.2 Summer Reading Club
Sr. Librarian Rosanne Miller informed Trustees on the statistics of the Summer 2000
Summer Reading Club, "Library Kids Lead the Way." There will be a recognition of
teen volunteers at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 12, 2000. Trustees
are invited to a pre-Council reception the same day at Main Library at3:45 p.
