RES-9510 Supporting the Preservation of Barham RanchRESOLUTION NO. 9510 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE SUPPORTING THE PRESERVATION OF BARHAM RANCH. WHEREAS, Barham Ranch is pristine wilderness land surrounded by existing Santiago Oaks Regional Park and Irvine Regional Park and the future Weir Canyon Regional Park; and WHEREAS, Barham Ranch is listed as priority purchase by the County Board of Supervisors for inclusion in the Regional Park system and as an addition to the Natural Communities Conservation Program Reserve; and WHEREAS, the County of Orange has sufficient funds set aside for immediate purchase of Barham Ranch; and WHEREAS, the topographical, geological and impractical environmental constraints of Barham Ranch render it unsuitable for any type of development; and WHEREAS, Barham Ranch is located within Orange's sphere of influence and is an asset to all the residents of Orange County as a wilderness park; and WHEREAS, the City Council of Orange believes Barham Ranch should be retained in its pristine condition in perpetuity; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Orange does hereby encourage the Orange Unified School District and the County of Orange to negotiate an agreement resulting in the County's purchase of Barham Ranch; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Orange Unified School District be encouranged to place deed restrictions on Barham Ranch at the thime of sale to the County to ensure that Barham Ranch will be used in perpetuity for Park purposes only ADOPTED this 25th day of September, 2001.
