A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE FOR SPECIAL EVENT STREET
CLOSURE FOR THE CURE AUTISM NOW
FOUNDATION BICYCLE RACE IN THE CITY OF
ORANGE ON SUNDAY, JUNE 23, 2002.
WHEREAS, Vehicle Code Section 211 01 ( e) authorizes cities to close portions of streets
for celebrations and local special events when, in the opinion of the City Council, the closing is
necessary for the safety and protection of persons who are to use that portion of the street during
the temporary closing; and
WHEREAS, Orange Municipal Code Section 12.58.015(B) authorizes the City Council,
by resolution, to approve the closure of portions of City arterial and collector streets for
celebrations, parades and special events when it determines that such closing is necessary for the
safety and protection of the public who are to use that portion of the street during the temporary
closing.
WHEREAS the "D" Racing wishes to temporarily close portions of Chapman Ave.,
Newport Blvd., Santiago Canyon Rd. and Jamboree Rd., and
WHEREAS, "D" Racing has agreed to comply with the regulations governing street
closures for special events that alcoholic beverages on public streets are a violation of the law,
the applicant will provide all signing, barricades, delineation, and traffic control necessary for the
closure acceptable to the City, including the Police and Public Works Department; that loud or
offensive music will lead to the revocation of their permit, notify area residents of the event and
temporary street closure and that it is the applicants' responsibility to clean the streets after the
event.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council ofthe City of Orange does resolve as follows:
That the westbound lanes of Chapman Avenue from Jamboree
Road to Newport Boulevard, northbound lanes of Newport
Boulevard from Chapman Avenue to Santiago Canyon Road,
eastbonnd lanes of Santiago Canyon Road from Newport
Boulevard to Jamboree Road and the southbound lanes of
Jamboree Road from Santiago Canyon Road to Chapman
Avenue be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday - June 23,
2002 for a Bicycle Race sponsored by "D" Racing.ADOPTED
this 28th day of May, 2002.
