RES-9599 Temporary Street Closure for Special EventRESOLUTION NO. 9599 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OJ' THE CITY OF ORANGE TEMPORARILY CLOSING A SECTION OF WALNUT AVENUE BETWEEN ORANGE STREET AND CENTER STREET, AND THE TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF PERMIT PARKING REQUIREMENTS WITHIN AREA "A" DOWNTOWN AREA) FOR A SPECIAL EVENT FROM 8:00 A.M. THRU 7:00 P.M., MAY 18, 2002. WHEREAS, Vehicle Code Section 2110 I (e) authorizes cities to close portions of streets for celebrations and local special events when, in the opinion of the City Council, the closing is necessmy for the safety and protection of persons who are to use that portion of the street during the temporary closing; and WHEREAS, Vehicle Code Section 22507 authorizes cItIes to temporarily restrict parking on streets upon which preferential parking privileges are given to residents and mercharlts adj acent to such parking. WHEREAS, Chapman University has requested a temporary street closure and suspensllon of neighborhood permit parking restrictions to accommodate a special event at their campus. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Orange does resolve as follows: Section I: That Walnut Avenue between Orange St. and Center St. be closed from 5:00 P.M. through 8:00 P.M. - May 18,2002.Section II:That before said closure and suspension of parking restrictions shall occur, Chapman University shall provide all signing, barricades and traffic control necessary for the closure acceptable to the City, including the Police and Public Works Departments.Section III:Chapman University shall notify area residents of the event and temporary street closure and suspension of parking restrictions in accordance with the Police Department's directions.
