The EMCHC would like to present framed photos on Thursday, Nov. 13, in a public program to be held in the El Modena Branch Library community room. Library Director Nora Jacob noted that plans were already in place to hold the Nov. 13 event, which would be part of the City’s commemorations of Veterans Day. CITY OF ORANGE DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARY SERVICES ORANGE PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES July 21, 2008 Page 3 Library Board members were unanimous in their support of placing a permanent collection of El Modena veterans’ photos in the branch library. Discussion involved where to locate space for the photos at the library. Trustee Nancy Collins suggested that instead of permanent photos, EMCHC might consider using several digital frames, setting up the images as a digital slide show. The pictures, she explained, would be scanned to a memory card which would then be placed in the digital frame. Ms. Collins felt there would be more of an impact with these types of frames because of the vast amount of pictures that will be displayed on a continuous basis. The EMCHC, Board of Trustees, and staff all expressed great excitement about this project, noting that a permanent photo collection in the El Modena Branch Library is an opportunity to emphasize the rich history of the El Modena area. To date, the EMCHC has identified two WWII veterans. Additionally, the EMCHC will be donating Proclamations that had been presented to Charles Rodriguez (Sam’s father, and a local war hero) might also be displayed at the El Modena Branch Library. It was agreed that Site Supervisor Irma Morales will work closely with the EMCHC on this project and will update Trustees and staff on its progress. Library staff will investigate wall-based digital displays as well as mobile, self-contained displays. 4.3 Update, 2nd Annual Library Spelling Bee Trustee Collins reported that she had met with Library Services Director Jacob and Children’s Services Library Assistant Linda Cundiff to talk about the Children’s Spelling Bee. Trustee Collins asked the Board for assistance with the spell-offs – to be held on Oct. 7, 8, and 9, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., for grades 1-6.
