Library Director' s Report (Yolanda Moreno) 2 . 1 . Monthly Report ; 21 . 1 . Recruitment updates: a) Volunteer Coordinator to begin November 5`h (Ashleigh Anderson Camba) b) 19hr Library Assistant begins this week (Keisha Radloffl c) 20hr Library Assistant going through background d) Page interviews being conducted today & tomorrow (2 openings) ' e) Librarian II recruitment to go out early November I 2 . 1 .2 . Laptops donated by SCE — the Library will receive 5 refurbished laptops in about 8 weeks. They do not come with software or wi-fi ; Chair Collins suggests we ask the Friends to donate money to purchase these items. 21 . 3 . Management Retreat — Library Managers met 9/27/ 12 offsite to go over goals and ' priorities. 2. 1 .4 . Friend' s Wishlist approved — the Library will receive $31 ,250 for the following: $ 14,500 Baker & Taylor DVDs, $5,000 Summer Reading, $ 5 ,350 books on CD, $4,2001arge print, $ 1 ,200 Employee Recognition Program, $ 1 ,000 (from Gas ' Company through Friends) El Modena Homework Center. Friend ' s turned down ' the Wishlist software request. ' 2 . 1 . 5 . Bobbi Robinson (Don' s widow) attended the 10/9 Council Meeting for the checic ; presentation. 2 . 1 . 6 . eBooks are now available the library had 108 checked out for September. ' 2 . 1 . 7 . City getting a Facebook page; once they have the policy in place, the library will ' start their own Facebook page. ' 2 . 1 . 8 . Inna Morales joined Leadership Orange. ' 21 . 9 . State Report due 10/31 . 2 .2 . Financial Report: September 2012 — The City/Library just Snished the first quarter and the library waiting for their cairyovers to show up (carryovers are donation money not ' spent in the previous fiscal year). ' 3 . Board Reports ' 3 . 1 . Report from Chair Collins — nothing to report at this time. ' 3 .2 . Report from Orange Public Library Foundation Liaison Trustee Schlund 3 .2 . 1 . The Foundation did not have a meeting in October, their next meeting is ' November 12r�' (post note : the 12�� is a holiday, the meeting will be held ll /19). Trustee vanVoorst reported on The Wrecking Crew fundraiser saying it was an excellent event, well attended/received, and one of the best documentaries she has ever seen. 3 . 3 . Report from Friends of the Library Liaison Trustee Freeman ' 3 . 3 . 1 . Friends had their annual book sale 10/5 & 6 (Friday & Saturday) and made twice ' the amount as last year (they only sold for one day) they netted a $720 profit. They also sold $ 110 in memberships during the book sale. 33 . 2 . Amival Board meeting scheduled for January 14, 2013 . They have 4 open positions (President, VP, Treasurer and Secretary). ' 333 . They started new advertising and have 20 potential new volunteers . They have 53 warking volunteers for the book store right now, it' s the highest number at one time they have ever had. They are expecting another 7 after they get through City review. ' 3 . 3 .4. Internet sales down this month, only took in $220 . 77. ' 33 . 5 . They are working on streamlining their circulation process . They found that items ' that were taken to the basement were taking a long time to coine back up to the books store (or never coming up); they hope to have the new process warking by January. 3 .4. Reports from Trustees 3 .4. 1 . Trustee vanVoorst: nothing at this time ' 3 .4.2 . Trustee Monsees There are two changes to the Villa Park school list that came ' out at the last meeting. 4. Old Business 41 . Open House Events 4. 11 . It was decided that the Board would split up the schools and contact the principals about attending Back to School night & other school events . The breakdown is as ' follows : A) Chair Collins to contact California & Yorba B) Vice Chair Schlund to contact Handy ' C) Trustee vanVoorst to contact Palmyra & West Orange D) Trustee Freeman to contact Taft ' E) Trustee Monsees to contact McPherson, Olive & Cambridge F) Irma Morales to contact Jordan & Esplanade Chair Collins suggests that if the Board can' t make it to a school event, then they should at least get them the materials (flyers, handouts, calendars, etc .) . Director Moreno would first like Ms . Morales to check with the Children' s Manager to ensure we are not duplicating their efforts. The Board stated they would like to help Children ' s with these efforts. 4. 1 .2. Trustee vanVoorst stated that Taft was having a carnival this Friday and suggested the Board set up a table at that event. Chair Collins to contact Taft ' principal and get the materials to Taft if no one is available to work the table. ', 413 . Director Moreno reported that she attended the DELAC meeting to talk about the library and has been asked to attend their monthly meetings ; she subsequently was invited to attend the ELAC meeting. 4. 1 .4. Trustee Monsees suggested that the Board contact schools to get their old "piloY' ' book sets for the library. She will contact Olive school to find out mare about this . 4. 2 . Farmers Market ' 4 .2. 1 . This Saturday Trustees Monsees & Schlund will wark the Library table. 4. 3 . Treats in the Streets 4. 3 . 1 . Chair Collins and Trustee Freeman will set up the booth and work until6pm; ' Trustee Monsees will work it until closing. ' 4 .4. Show Your Library Card Month 4.4. 1 . Chair Collins would like to do this for the month of November. The following ' have agreed to a discount of some kind: Watson' s, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and Jalapeno ' s. We have not heard from PouPs yet. The Toy Store said ' they would participate as well, but Nancy to confirm. Ms. Eriksen to get this ', added to Channel3 , Facebook, and the City' s website, as well as a poster to ' advertise the businesses (and Paul Sitkoff at City Hall). ' 5. New Business ' 5 . 1 . School Internships at Library ' 5 . 1 . 1 . Trustee Monsees suggested we contact the ROP program for inteinships. Currently the Library worlcs with Santa Ana College for internships; and the library actually has one starting in November. ' 6.
