then $11,045 from the Gala’s Raise Your Paddle to be used for local history. Finally, they are
giving the library $500 to be used toward an art scholarship program – the library is working out
the details; they want to provide this for lower income kids in the 6th grade starting with
California Elementary.
2.5. Financial Report – the library is right on track. They are still waiting for the carry-over money to

3. Board Reports
3.1. Report from Chair Collins – Chair Collins stated that she spoke with each Councilmember at the
Streetfair and was able to discuss the “Read Around the Plaza” idea that she proposed to the
library board; she stated that they were all very excited about it. She suggested that they focus on
doing this during National Library Week in April, but she doesn’t want to take away from any
programs taking place at the library. Director Moreno pointed out that Fullerton has offered to
partner with Orange on the “One Book One City” program and she stated that Fullerton has been
doing it for several years and they have it down to a science. She thought that perhaps the library
could focus on this program for Council involvement. She stated that Fullerton does their
program in October. She is concerned about funding however. Trustee Freeman suggested they
do the “Raise Your Paddle” for this at the next Gala. Chair Collins suggested the library partner
with Barnes & Noble for a fundraiser. Director Moreno stated they will be meeting with
Fullerton to discuss this further. Director Moreno stated she will bring a handout from Fullerton
to the next meeting. Chair Collins reiterated that the Council is very willing to read to the kids.

The prizes are here. Ms. Eriksen will prepare the prize wheel with the prize info. Chair Collins
wanted to ensure they have enough prizes – they ran out last year; she said she will come look at
the items to see if there is enough. Trustee Monsees asked for a sharpie; Trustee Freeman asked
for extra prize wheel cutouts (to add or change prizes); and Chair Collins asked for a roll of blue
masking tape (2” thick) for masking off a line to the wheels. They would also like to have “Show
