time of the year.

3.1. Report from Chair Collins – nothing to report at this time.
3.2. Report from Orange Public Library Foundation Liaison Trustee Schlund – The Gala
took place yesterday (Sunday, May 18), and was a huge success. Vice Chair Schlund
will have the amount of funds raised at the next board meeting. Director Moreno said
she did a quick tally during the event and believes that they raised approximately
$12,000 from “raise your paddle” and $28,000 from the silent auction, for a grand total
of $40,000.
3.3. Report from Friends of the Library Liaison Trustee Freeman
3.3.1. The Friends introduced their new secretary, Cathy Stevens.
3.3.2. They did a special book sale cart for Mother’s Day and earned about $60.

special events; they will also provide “free book” bookmarks.
3.3.4. They are working on creating a new tri-fold brochure.

the 21st at Elmo; they will provide fiction, bios & children’s books. The events
will take place from 10-1 (they will start before the library opens); cost is $2/bag.
The board will provide treats for the volunteers who work the book sales, Trustee
Monsees & Chair Collins will provide treats for Taft; Trustee vanVoorst initially
said she could do Elmo, but realized she won’t be available and asked if she could
help with Taft. Trustee Freeman said he would go to both. Vice Chair Schlund
stated that she will be out of town but would make a donation. Trustee Freeman
asked that they bring the treats early since the volunteers begin at 9am (for set
up).

one free” sale on fiction books (this will be anything on the back wall in the

4.1. Farmers Market (next event 7/19 with Nancy) – Trustee vanVoorst and Vice Chair
Schlund worked the event on 5/17 but said it was it was very slow due to the heat. They
suggest that the board be allowed to cancel this event when extreme heat is taking place.
4.2. Strategic Vision for Library Future - Trustee Freeman asked the board to take time to
read the information that was emailed to them. One of them included an article by ALA
asking how libraries are going to stay relevant over the next 30 years, which is
something he feels the board should be thinking about. Trustee Freeman asked: “How is
our library meeting the public needs,” and “How do we partner with the different
resources in the community?” Trustee Monsees stated that the people are misinformed
about what the library offers, it is no longer just a place for books, it is about
information. She says we need to create a library that caters to the community. Vice
Chair Schlund asked the Director if they have done a demographic study, she replied
they have not, but they will look into conducting a survey in the next fiscal year.
