ALA called “Confronting the Future: Strategic Visions for the 21st Century Library” and
said this got him to thinking about the future of the library. Here are some thoughts that
he shared:
a) The collection at the branches was significantly cut over the last few years; he asked
if it’s worth putting more money into the collections at the branches, or should they
find another use for these building, such as a community center?
b) Where are we putting our resources for the future? He would like to be ahead of the
curve and wanted to know what the Trustee’s thought.
c) Does the library need to refine their model?
d) What about an electronic reference resource, or “Ask a Librarian?”
Chair Collins stated that money is limited but she agreed that the Board and the library
should stay ahead of the curve. Director Moreno stated that she will be attending the
Library Directors Conference in Sacramento on 2/25 & 26 and she hopes to gain some
