A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO PHILLIP D. GUNNESS OF THE CITY OF
ORANGE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND COMMEND
HIM FOR THIRTY YEARS OF LOYAL AND
DEDICATED SERVICE.
WHEREAS, Phillip D. Gunness began his career as a fireman with the City of
Orange Fire Department on May 24,1971, worked as a fireman until he was promoted to
Captain in February of 1990; and
WHEREAS, Dan worked as both a suppression Captain and an Administrative
Captain and throughout his career was consistently noted for his efficiency, effectiveness,
his ability to organize, and his ability to work well with others; and
WHEREAS, Dan always took on extra projects such as the Orange County Fire
Departments History Book, developed manuals and was in charge of team sports for the
department for many years. He received national recognition for an article he had
publlished in Fire House magazine and, for many years Dan was the chairm.m of the
Retirement Committee; and
WHEREAS, Dan was the recipient of both tne Firefighter of the Year Award and
the Award of Merit from the joint Rotary Clubs of Orange.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, I, Mark A. Murphy, Mayor of the
City of Orange, on behalf of the entire City Council, recognize and congratulate Phillip
D. Gunness for his thirty years of loyal and dedicated service to the City of Orange and
that the City Council on behalf of all the citizens of Orange wish him and his wife
ShalTon a long, happy and healthy retirement.
