A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO DAVID M. SMITH OF THE CITY OF ORANGE
FIRE DEPARTMENT AND COMMENDING HIM
FOR MORE THAN THIRTY YEARS OF LOYAL
AND DEDICATED SERVICE.
WHEREAS, David M. Smith began his career as a fireman with the City of
Orange Fire Department on October 15, 1971 after spending two years as a fireman
with the Long Beach Naval Station Fire Department in Terminal Island; and
WHEREAS, in just over two years, January 1974, Dave successfully tested for
the position of Fire Engineer and by February 1977 he was promoted to Captain and
worked in Fire Suppression, Fire Administration and also as Deputy Fire Marshal; and
WHEREAS, as Deputy Fire Marsha,l he oversaw development and
coordination of Fire Prevention purchasing, the Haz Mat Procedures manual and the
new CAD/RMS system, and wrote the Fire Department Inspection program; and
WHEREAS, Dave was most recently assigned to the Training/USAR tmck, he
developed expertise in confined space, trench rescue and swift water rescue and
willingly shared his expertise and was active with the Tmck Training Company skills
maintenance program instmcting classes. He al,o assisted with the training of
probationary firefighters; and
EREAS, until his retirement on March 3,d of this year, Dave was a well-
respected leader in the Department, he was very well rounded in his knowledge of the
job ,md he will be missed very much.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Orarlge that David M. Smith be recognized and congratulated for his thirty years of
loyal and dedicated service to the City of Orange and that the City Council on behalf of
all the citizens of Orange wish him a long, happy, and healthy retirement.
