A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO SERGEANT SYLVESTER L. JORDAN OF THE
ORANGE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND
COMMENDING HIM FOR MORE THAN TWENTY-
SIX YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED
SERVICE
WHEREAS, Sylvester "Tom" Jordan joined the Orange Police Department in August
1978, as a full-time police officer, after having served six years with the San Clemente
Police Department. He graduated from the Golden West Police Academy in 1973, earned an
Associates degree from Saddleback College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management from
Redlands University in 1981,
and WHEREAS, before entering law enforcement, Sergeant Tom Jordan proudly served
his country for four years, as a member of the United States Marines Corps. During a tour
in Vietnarn, as a tearn leader with Company C, 1 st Reconnaissance Battalion, Corporal Tom
Jordan was awarded the "Bronze Star Medal" for his outstanding reconnaissance support,
intelligence gathering, diligence and resourcefulness for his actions on 24 February 1970. He was
also awarded a "Combat ActionRibbon,"
and WHEREAS, after serving our country, Tom Jordan (TJ) joined the law
enforcement community where he continued to exemplify a sense of duty, leadership and devotion to those
he served as a Police Officer. In March 1982, based upon his diligent and dedicated effort
and experience, TJ was promoted to Motor Officer. He continued his career growth achieving
a promotion to Master Police Officer in November 1984. On December 8, 1985, Tom
was promoted to the rank of Police
Sergeant.Sergeant Tom Jordan served as a Department supervisor in Patrol, Traffic,
and Administration, until 1999, when he was assigned as an Investigations supervisor. In
that position, Sergeant Jordan worked all units, Juvenile, Property, Narcotics, and Crimes
Against Persons. For several months during 2001, Sergeant Jordan supervised multiple units at the
same time. Despite this challenge, he remained focused and committed, demanding thorough
and complete
investigations.Sergeant Jordan received numerous awards during his career from other police
agencies as well as civic organizations, including a Commendation from Assemblyman Mickey
Conroy for his involvement with the investigation of the "Locker Room Shooting." He also
received numerous letters of thanks from citizens expressing their gratitude for his kindness
and
professionalism.Sgt. Jordan is highly regarded by his colleagues, has been a true asset to the
Department and made many significant contributions to Orange, a city in which he has spent most of
his
career.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Orange
expresses to Sergeant Sylvester "Tom" Jordan of the Orange Police Department its sincere
appreciation for more than 26 years of loyal and dedicated service to the City of Orange. On
behalf of a grateful community, the Orange City Council wishes TJ a happy, healthy and
fulfilling retirement.
