A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE SUPPORTING THE CITY OF
ANAHEIM'S REQUEST TO HAVE CALTRANS ADD
THE NAME "ANAHEIM" TO THE THIRTEEN
EXISTING DIRECTIONAL SIGNS ALONG THE
NORTHBOUND STATE ROUTE 55 FREEWAY
FROM JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT TO STATE
ROUTE 91 FREEWAY.
WHEREAS, State Route (SR) 55 northbound lanes terminate in the City of Anaheim; and
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim's Canyon Industrial Area is one of the largest
contiguous industrial/commercial areas in Orange County, comprising 2,400 acres and over 45,000
current jobs; and
WHEREAS, Caltrans currently signs northbound SR 55 with the Control City of
Riverside, which is over 20 miles east of the SR55/SR91 interchange; and
WHEREAS, the City of Orange believes the Allaheim/Riverside direction signage will
provide positive guidance to motorists as they travel along the northbound SR 55 Freeway; and
WHEREAS, the City of Orange has been discussing with Caltrans the need for adequate
freeway identification signing for the City of Orange and Caltrans has agreed to add ground-
mounted signs installed on the SR-55 freeway identifying the City of Orange;
and WHEREAS, the City of Orange will be submitting an application for the addition
of overhead exit signing at major off-
ramps; and WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim has pledged support for the City of
Orange application for
such signing;NOW, THEREFORE, it is hereby resolved by the City Council of the City of
Orange that it supports the City of Anaheim's request to have "Anaheim" added to the northbound
SR 55 Freeway signage from John Wayne Airport to SR
91 Freeway.ADOPTED this
