RES-9743 Loyal Service Appreciation For Laura HooksRESOLUTION NO. 9743 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO LAURA HOOKS OF THE ORANGE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND COMMENDING HER FOR THIRTY-FOUR YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE:WHEREAS, Laura Jean Hooks began her career as a public-safety dispatcher at the Orange Police Department on February 17,1969. Laura worked tirelessly learning every aspect of every job within the police department enabling her to quickly master the basic principles of the criminal justice system and the: critical nature of officer and citizen safety. Armed with this knowledge, Laura soon became a vital member ofthe Orange Police Department.WHEREAS, Laura played a major role in establishing esprit de corps between officers and dispatchers. Known primarily for her calm radio demeanor during the most critical of situations. More than one officer has been heard saying, "Laura really saved my life that night", or "I wouldn't be here ifit wasn't for Laura on the radio."WHEREAS, Laura's personal and professional life are always intertwined. As a dispatcher, Laura gave to the community on a daily basis. Off duty, Laura continued to give to the community by providing food, toys, Christmas trees and basic living essentials to families in need. Laura and her family also performed as clowns to entertain in hospitals, convalescent homes and senior centers.WHEREAS, Laura's generosity extended to her co-workers. Year after year,Laura prepared holiday dinners and brought them in for everyone lucky enough to be stuck working the holidays. She is also an expel1 in cake decorating and her famous trademark, OPD PATCH, cake was the favorite at every retirement function WHEREAS, for thirty-four years, Laura has been the standard all other dispatchers work to achieve. In addition to years of hard work, tireless dedication and unconditional loyalty, the real legacy Laura has given the Orange Police Department is the future generations of officers and dispatchers who have benefited from Laura's willingness to share her knowledge and experience as a trainer, mentor and friend.NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, I, Mark A. Murphy, Mayor of the City of Orange, on behalf of the entire City Council commend Laura Jean Hooks on her thirty- four years ofloyal and dedicated service to the Orange Police Department and to the citizens of Orange and wish her a long aJld happy retirement.ADOPTED this 27th Mark A.
