A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO TOM THIES OF THE CITY OF ORANGE FIRE
DEPARTMENT AND COMMENDING HIM FOR
THIRTY-FOUR YEARS OF LOYAL
AND DEDICATED
SERVICE.WHEREAS, Tom Thies served two years in the United States Army prior
to beginrling his career as a Fireman with the Orange Fire Department. He was promoted
to FiremanlPararnedic in July, 1973. In May of 1981, he was promoted to Captain
and through most of his career worked as a Captain/
Pararnedic;WHEREAS, for a time, he worked as the Department Pararnedic
Coordinator providing leadership and representing the OFD at Regional meetings of the
Orange County Emergency Medical Care Committee and various subcommittees on
Emergency Care, equipment and transportation;
and WHEREAS, Tom was truly a part of the history ofpararnedics in Orange
County and holds the distinction of having graduated from Class 1 of the O. C.
Pararnedic Academy. Until the day of his retirement he was the last remaining member of Class
1 still working as a pararnedic;
and WHEREAS, in 1981 Tom received the Firefighter of the Year Award from
the combined Rotary Clubs of Orange and in 1982 he received the prestigious
Overachievers Award from the Orange County Fire Chiefs Association;
and WHEREAS, Tom Thies was the co-author of the
Pararnedic Subscription Program in the City of Orange, a prograrn that has been adopted throughout
many Fire Departments in the State of
California; and WHEREAS, Tom was a dedicated employee, the skills and knowledge
that he possessed will sincerely
be missed.NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Orange that Tom Thies be recognized and congratulated for his thirty-four
years of loyal and dedicated service to the City of Orange and that the City Council on behalf
of all the citizens of Orange wish Tom and his wife Denise a long, happy,
and healthy retirement.ADOPTED this 25th day
