2. Library Director’s Report
2.1. Monthly Report
2.1.1. The video parody took place over the weekend at the library; Chair Collins donated the $500
needed to produce the video. A few staff members volunteered to appear in the video (on their
own time). The video should be ready to debut during National Library Week (4/12 -18).
2.1.2. Foundation Games will be held April 17 & 18; the library director is waiting for Community
Services Director Marie Knight to provide their booth location and other details. Chair Collins
informed the board that she will not be able to attend the Foundation Games after all.
2.1.3. The Volunteer Recognition breakfast is on Saturday, April 11 th at 8:30am. They chose a breakfast
this year in order to allow those who are normally scheduled to work at the Friend’s bookstore to
be able to participate since this will take place prior to opening.
2.1.4. The Library is considering to apply for the Latino American’s 500 Years of History grant, the
grant is offering funding for $3,000 or $10,000 with specific requirements for each amount. The
committee is made up Director Moreno, Lizeth Ramirez, Kurt Keesling, and Irma Morales. They
will be meeting soon to discuss the details.
2.1.5. Staff is working on a customer satisfaction survey that will be available to pa trons during National
Library Week. They plan to collect the surveys for one month.
2.1.6. The Operating and CIP budget was presented to the City Manager. The library requested to
increase the book budget by $25,000. They also requested (in the CIP budget) funds to update the
self check machines, paint the building, upgrade the AC/heating unit, and update the security
cameras. And a decision package was submitted requesting to unfreeze a Library Technology
Assistant positon.
2.1.7. The Foundation Gala is on Sunday, March 29; Trustee vanVoorst stated she would be there and
Chair Collins stated that she and her husband will also attend.
2.1.8. The library now has two tech help volunteers that can provided one-on-one help every Saturday
for Adults.
2.1.9. The library is working with the owner of Book Carnival – a local book store, to bring Michael
Connelly and Robert Crais to the library for a book signing. The owner usually holds the book
signings at her store, but these two author’s bring in such a large crowd that she would like the
library to host the event. They expect these to take place later this year.
2.1.10. Irma Morales will be “pitching” a grant idea to the State for funding to hold a resource fair with
GRIP, including a speaker on bullying. The call will take place next week. The library is asking
for $2,800 in funding.
2.2. Financial Report – the library is at 59.2% of their budget spent for the month of February; they are usually
at about 60% at this time, so this is very good.

3.2. Report on Orange Public Library Foundation Board Meeting - The board will be setting up a nominating
committee for Julie Kramer’s position.
3.3 Report from Friends of the Library Board Meeting - The Friend’s provided the approved items from the
library’s wish list; they are approving $21,800. The next book sale is May 30th.

4. Old Business
4.1. National Library Week (4/12-18)
4.1.1 The library is requesting a proclamation at the 4/14/15 council meeting – if the board would like to
attend, the meeting starts at 6pm. Chair Collins asked the board to be there if they could.
4.1.2 The Friends will be providing 200 coupon for a free book to Lending Services staff to hand out
during this week.
4.1.3 A customer service survey will kick-off this week, with a prize drawing at the end of the survey
collection.
4.1.4 The library will distribute a flyer for a contest held by Sirsi where patrons can “Tell Your Story.”
Sirsi will offer a prize to the winner and the library.
4.1.5 This same week is Library Workers Day; the library plans to do something special for staff.
4.1.6 Staff is planning a “Take a Break at your Library” for city staff to participate.
4.1.7 The library will have a free demonstration on 3D printing and Zinio magazines for city employees
only.
4.1.8 The video parody will debut on the library’s website during this week.
4.2. Foundation Games (4/17 & 18) – the board is not needed to assist at this event.
4.3. Tale of Two Cities: To Kill a Mockingbird & Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee (programming ideas) –
The library is working on programming ideas for this event. One idea is to have a fashion show from that
era. The library director from Fullerton knows someone who has all the clothing to do this. This program
will take place in October.
