RES-9885 Supporting Master Plan and Design Grijalva Park Gymnasium_Sports CenterRESOLUTION NO. 9885 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE SUPPORTING THE MASTER PLAN AND DESIGN OF THE GYMNASIUM/SPORTS CENTER AT THE GRIJALVA PARK EXTENSION AT SANTIAGO CREEK. WHEREAS, over the last four years the City of Orange purchased a total of 42.6 acres of undeveloped land for $4.5 million to develop a cornmunity park at Grijalva Park at Santiago Creek; and WHEREAS, the City initially purchased 15 of the 42.6 acres and developed Phase I of Grijalva Park which includes three lighted soccer fields, two tot lots, lighted outdoor basketball and volleyball court, three picnic shelters, gazebo, nature trail, walking and running path, concession/restroom building which are now an asset to the community; and WHEREAS, the City has 27.6 acres of remaining vacant property, referred to the Grijalva Park Extension, for which the City purchased the property to further expand the City's parkland inventory for active and passive park purposes; and WHEREAS, the City's Master Plan for Park Facilities, Recreation and Comrnunity Services adopted on December 14, 1999 identified the City as having a critical need for indoor space for sports and recreational opportunities; and WHEREAS, the City hired Purkiss-Rose, RSI and LPA to prepare a Master Plan of Grijalva Park Extension and Design of the gymnasium/sports center; and WHEREAS, the City of Orange conducted several cornrnunity rneetings to obtain input on the recreational needs and desires for the uses of the Grijalva Park Extension property and gymnasium/sports center; and WHEREAS, based on the community's input, the consultants prepared a site plan identifying Grijavla Park Extension property as the location for the gymnasium/sports center; and WHEREAS, the City along with support and assistance from the Community Foundation of Orange has made a strong commitment to pursue funding opportunities for the design and construction of the gymnasium/sports NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Orange is in support of the Master Plan and Design of the gymnasium/sports center at the Grijalva Park Extension at Santiago Creek.
