A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO JIM VAN DALSEM OF THE CITY OF ORANGE
FIRE DEPARTMENT AND COMMENDING HIM
FOR THIRTY YEARS OF LOYAL AND
DEDICATED SERVICE.
WHEREAS, Jim Van Dalsem began his career as an apprentice firefighter with the
City of Huntington Beach and the City of Tustin. He was hired as a firefighter with the City
of Orange Fire Department in October of 1973. Jim was promoted to Fire Engineer in
November of 1982; and
WHEREAS, Jim was an excellent engineer and mechanic, he solved a multitude of
equipment problems for the Department. He could be seen repairing garage doors, as well as
installing shower valves and security locks and over the years saved the Department
thousands of dollars, and
WHEREAS, Jim was able to provide expertise in many diverse areas from rescue
systems to creating and developing specs for new apparatus purchases, he became the
Chairman of the Apparatus and Equipment Committee and he made many trips back east to
overslee the manufacture of fire department apparatus.
WHEREAS, he was a member of the Technical Rescue Team, the Swift Water
Rescue Team and the FEMA USAR Task Force 5, and
WHEREAS, Jim was a hard working, easy gomg, well liked member of the
department who will be truly missed,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Orange that Jim Van Dalsem be recognized and congratulated for his thirty years ofloyal and
dedicated service to the City of Orange and that the City Council on behalf of all the citizens
of Orange wish Jim and his wife Judie a long, happy and healthy retirement.
