RES-9837 Loyal Service Appreciation for Roger ElliottRESOLUTION NO. 9837 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO ROGER ELLIOTT OF THE CITY OF ORANGE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND COMMENDING HIM FOR THIRTY YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE. WHEREAS, Captain Roger Elliott began his career working with the California Division of Forestry, Roger was hired as a firefighter with the City of Orange Fire Department on January 4, 1974 and has served the City of Orange for the past thirty years.He was promoted to Fire Engineer in September of 1985 and was promoted to Fire CaptaininJuneof1996. WHEREAS, Roger's computer skills were often used to the benefit of the department with programs he developed for department projects, and WHEREAS, he took the initiative to get the first Training Company organized and helpt:d to get the program on its feet, and WHEREAS, Roger for many years was the department seamstress and repaired turnouts and upholstery in the rigs, and WHEREAS, Roger was involved in many community projects and public education programs, and was an Ambassador for the Orange Fire Department through his work with the Explorer program, the EMS Committee, his work for many years with the California Joint Apprenticeship program and by taking the lead on the restoration of ALF the City's 1923 AmeJican La France Award Winning Fire Engine, and WHEREAS, he was a representative of the department's Firefighters Association and also represented firefighters at the State level in Sacramento and on a national level in Washington, D.C., and WHEREAS, as a result of his many good works he was awarded the 1993 Rotary Firefighter of the Year Award. It is for these many reasons that Roger will be missed. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Orange that Roger Elliott be recognized and congratulated for his loyal and dedicated service to the City of Orange for the past thirty years and that the City Council wishes Roger and his wife Kathy a long, happy and healthy retirement.
