RESOLUTION NO. 9982
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE RECOGNIZING PUBLIC
WORKS SENIOR CIVIL ENGINEER DENNIS J.
SCHMITZ AND COMMENDING HIM FOR
THIRTY-FIVE YEARS OF LOYAL
AND DEDICATED
SERVICE WHEREAS, on August 24, 1970, Dennis J. Schmitz began his employment with
the City of Orange as a Draftsman Engineer II;
and WHEREAS, Dennis has risen through the ranks of Public Works to the position
of Senior Civil Engineer, attesting to both his skill and knowledge;
and WHEREAS, Dennis has spent his entire tenure with the City working for the
Traffic Engineering Division of Public Works, providing our citizens, and contractors doing
business with the City, exemplary customer service and as many green lights as possible;
and WHEREAS, Dennis guided the evolution of the City's traffic signal systern
from rudimentary rnechanica1 dials to sophisticated, centralized computer controlled systems;
and WHEREAS, Dennis put in many dedicated late hours checking street light
operation,performing countless traffic studies and assisting the Police Departrnent at the scene of
serious traffic accidents;
and WHEREAS, Dennis's parting contribution to the City was the establishment of a
Traffic Management Center to monitor and optirnize signal operations within Orange;
and WHEREAS, Dennis J. Schmitz has announced his decision to retire from the City
of Orange as ofJu1y 5,
2005.NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Mayor and the entire City
Council hereby express sincere appreciation and congratulations to Dennis J. Schmitz for his
thirty-five years of loyal and dedicated service to the City of Orange and its citizens, and wish hirn
a long and
