A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO JOE FORTIER OF THE CITY TRAFFIC
COMMISSION AND COMMENDING HIM FOR
OVER SIXTEEN YEARS OF LOYAL AND
DEDICATED SERVICE.
WHEREAS, Joe Fortier was appointed by the City Council to the City Traffic
Commission in September 1988, He exemplifies all that is best about community
service, volunteerism and taking action to make a positive difference in the City of
Orange; and
WHEREAS, in his 162 meetings over the past sixteen years on the commission,
Joe provided valuable input on a wide array of topics, A few of the highlights include
neighborhood preservation studies for Briardale, Handy Street, Palmyra and Adams
Avenue neighborhoods; removal of commercial parking on arterial highways; approving
the placement of 13 school crossing guard; approving 24 new or expanded permit
parking areas; establishing the City's Residential Neighborhood Traffic Management
Program, and, most recently, working on the City's ordinance regulating the parking of
recreational vehicles on public streets; and
WHEREAS, as long-time Orange resident, Joe spent many hours of his own
time reviewing Traffic Commission items, and also traffic concerns of citizens who
contacted him directly, As a Principal and administrator for the Orange Unified School
District,Joe always ensured school safety was a priority of the Commission; and served for
many years as the Vice Chairman of the City Traffic Commission, and presided as
Chairman for the past
year,WHEREAS, in spite of this, he still found time to enjoy many rounds of golf
and participate vigorously in the Rotary
Club,
I NOW THEREFORE, I, Mark A, Murphy, Mayor of the City of Orange,
on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby extend sincere gratitude to Joe Fortier
for over 16 years of loyal and dedicated service on the City Traffic Commission, working
to help make the City of Orange ready to meet the challenges of the
future,ADOPTED this 26th day of April,
2005,of
