A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO MARK D. WAYLAND OF THE CITY OF
ORANGE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND
COMMENDING HIM FOR THIRTY YEARS OF
LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE.
WHEREAS, Mark D. Wayland began his career as a fireman with the City of
Orange Fire Department on October 7, 1974, he became a paramedic in 1982 and then
became an Engineer/Paramedic in 1985; and
WHEREAS, Mark was as a Corporal E4 in the U,S, Marine Corps for three
years, and was discharged in 1970, He then worked for three years as a gas station
attendant and auto mechanic which probably started him on the road to his career as a
Fire Engineer; and
WHEREAS, along with the Orange Police Department, where Mark worked as a
Police Reserve Officer, he helped to get the SWAT MEDIC program up and running and
became the first of two Tactical Medics on the Orange Police Department SWAT team;
and
WHEREAS, for several years Mark served as the Background Investigator for
the Orange Fire Department ensuring the excellent quality of employees we enjoy today;
and
WHEREAS, he always understood the value of education and attended school at
Cal State University, While there he set up a program allowing other employees to take
classes via video at Fire Headquarters,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of
Orange commends Mark Wayland for his loyal and dedicated service to the City of
Orange for thirty years; and wishes Mark and his wife Kathy a long, happy, and healthy
retirement,
