A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ORANGE REGARDING THE 2006
CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY CLOSURE.
WHEREAS, in the calendar year 2006, the holidays of Christmas and New Year's Day
fall on Mondays and are cunently provided to City employees as paid holidays; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to express its sincere appreciation to City
employees for their dedicated service to the City and its citizens throughout the year; and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the value of time spent with families during
the holiday season; and
WHEREAS, City services, except public safety, are all closed on Monday, December
25, 2006 as well as Monday, January 1, 2007; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to effectively accommodate time-off requests by
City employees during the holidays
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, tbat the City Council of the City of
Orange does hereby grant the following:
An additional one-half day of paid holiday leave on Thursday, December 28,
2006 to each full-time employee as follows:
40-hour employees shall accrue a total of one-half day for
said holiday benefits, and
24-hour shift employees shall accrue a total of 6 hours, and
Regular part-time employees' benefits shall be based on pro-
ration of hours; and
Notwithstanding public safery and other emergency call-out services, City
facilities will be closed at the end of the business day on Friday, December 22,
2006 through Monday, January 1, 2007.
The City's public libraries (Tafr Branch Library, and El Modena Branch
Library) will remain open during the week of Wednesday, December 27 h
through Friday, December 29'h with a reduced operating schedule of 10:00 a.m.
to 6:00 p.m.; and
This Resolution shall be applicable only to calendar year 2006, and
City employees will be required to utilize their own accrued paid leave hours
i.e., vacation, compensatory time, holiday compensatory time, administrative
leave, TRP leave, and/or floating holiday) to cover the holiday closures on
Tuesday, December 26, Wednesday, December 27, and half-day on Thursday,
December 28, 2006.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that those members of the Police and Fire
Departments described in Resolution Nos. 9977, 9999, 10000, and 10007 respectively shall
receive an additional one-half day of holiday leave which can be utilized by such personnel
upon approval of appropriate Police and Fire supervisors.
