RES-10099 Loyal Service Appreciation for Scott StatonRESOLUTION NO. 10099 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO SERGEANT SCOTT STATON OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND COMMENDING HIM FOR MORE THAN THIRTY YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE. WHEREAS, Scott Staton began his law enforcement career with the Orange County Sheriffs Department in 1976 as a Reserve Deputy for one year, and served the City of Westminster as a Police Officer for two years; and WHEREAS, Scott resigned the Westminster Police Department to Jom the Orange Police Department on December 26. 1978 where he would proudly serve the citizens of Orange for the next twenty-seven years; and WHEREAS, Scott served in Patrol for four years, transferred to Detectives where he worked property crimes for two years and then returned to Patrol where he promoted to Corporal, and served as a Field Training Officer and SWAT Team member; and WHEREAS, Scott was promoted to Sergeant on May 22, 1986 and has served in various assignments including the Special Enforcement Detail, Detectives, Property and Crimes Against Persons Units, SWAT Team Leader, Force Tactics and Training Staff, and two tours in the Gang Unit, his last assignment before retirement; and WHEREAS, Scott has made numerous proposals over the years for change regarding blue uniforms, black and white police units, modernizing police firearms, honoring officers of the month and quarter, and dividing the City into three sectors to promote Community Oriented Policing philosophies; and WHEREAS, Scott was voted the 2005 Supervisor of the Year by the members of the Orange Police Department and honored as such at the annual Rotary Police and Fire Awards luncheon; and WHEREAS, Scott was selected as the Employee of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2006; and WHEREAS, Scott has been known throughout his police career for his leadership, enthusiasm, excellent command of field tactics, dedication to officer safety, excellent decision making ability and good judgment. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Orange expresses to Sergeant Scott Staton of the Orange Police Department its sincere appreciation for more than thirty years of distinguished and honorable service to law enforcement and to the Orange Police Department and citizens of Orange.
