A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO COUNCILMEMBER STEVEN FRANK AMBRIZ
COMMENDING HIM FOR HIS LOYAL AND
DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE RESIDENTS OF
ORANGE
IN MEMORIAM
WHEREAS, it is with heavy heart and sincere condolences to the Ambriz family that the
City of Orange honors Councilman Steven Frank Ambriz for his four years on the City Council.
He passed away on May 25, 2006, due to a tragic automobile collision in our city.
Steve was elected to the City Council in 2002 as one of the youngest members of the City
Council in the history of our city. Although his father Frank Ambriz was very ill and died just
hours before his son's swearing-in, he was aware that his son Steve had accomplished one of
his greatest dreams-to become an elected
Orange Councilmember.Born and raised in Orange, Steven was a "Proud Panther" at Orange High
School, and received an AA Degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Child Development
at Santiago Canyon College. He went on to receive his Bachelor's of Science Degree
in Sociology,California State University
at Fullerton.He began his career with the City of Orange in the Community
Services Department,where he worked for nine years, building a reputation as a hands-on
leader-working daily with residents and community in the recreation area. One of his
notable accomplishments was the coordination of the City's first
Third of July celebration.After a three-year stint in community relations with
the Children's Hospital Orange County, where he conducted public safety,
child protection, and communication education programs, he joined the staff of former Orange County
Supervisor Todd Spitzer. His knowledge and people skills quickly elevated him to Chief of Staff. After
Supervisor Spitzer moved to the California Assembly, Steve joined the County's Health Care Agency
as a manager. In this capacity, he was able to combine his skills in developing
and promoting programs and events with his knowledge of public safety issues to energize
a countywide observance of Emergency Medical Services Week,
where he left his mark.Steve was a faithful servant to the people of his community and
lived by a personal credo to "do what's right." He worked tirelessly to help non-
profit organizations raise funds. He was active in the YWCA, YMCA, The Orange Senior Center,
the Ronald McDonald House of Orange County, the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life,"
the Friendly Center, the Orange County Vector Control District, and was alternate to the
Transportation Corridor Agency
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange City Council, City
Manager, and staff members extend their condolences to his wife Bridget and daughter Kaitlyn,
as Steve is honored for his passion for life and spirit of volunteerism. This legacy will long be
remembered and carried on by the lives he inspired.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council, City staff, friends and family
express our sincere gratitude to Councilman Steven Frank Ambriz for improving the quality of
life in our city and for serving on the Orange City Council. Well done, Steve. You will be missed.
