RES-10151 Loyal Service Appreciation for Steve BoozeRESOLUTION NO. 10151 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO DETECTIVE STEVE BOOZE OF THE ORANGE POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR HIS MORE THAN TWENTY-ONE YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITY OF ORANGE.WHEREAS, Steve Booze was hired with the Orange Police Department on June 17,1985, after working with the Upland Police Department for 2 2 years; at this time, the Background Investigator for the Orange Police Department was Robert H. Gustafson; and WHEREAS, while Steve was in the Field Services Division, he worked assignments in Patrol, Special Enforcement Detail (SED), SWAT Team, and was Corporal and Field Training Officer before promoting to the Investigative Services Division in January 1987; and WHEREAS, as a Detective he was assigned to Theft, Forgery, Major Fraud, Vice and Narcotics, Backgrounds, and the Robbery and Homicide Units. Steve investigated over 25 homicides and was the case agent on the reopening of the 1965 Floy Redman homicide which he solved when a fingerprint was identified through the new FBI fingerprint database. The suspect was located in Texas, serving a life sentence for the murder of his mother; and WHEREAS, Steve was one of the lead detectives on the Orange Disposal Service trash investigation case (one of the largest fraud investigations in Orange County history). This investigation took over three years to complete. Over 150 interviews were conducted with over 300 boxes of evidence seized, maintained and logged. In 1998, the defendant was arrested and seven years later was convicted of 47 of the originally charged 57 felony counts, recovering over five million dollars; and WHEREAS, in 1997, Steve was selected as the Officer of the Year by his peers. He was the Police Association's President from 1996 to 2002, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Officers Give Hope, a non-profit organization dedicated to recruiting marrow and stem cell donors for the National Marrow Donor Program's Registry; and WHEREAS, Steve plans to work part-time continuing to do backgrounds after he retires.He will also spend time with his wife Sue, daughters Kelly and Traci, and his two grandchildren David and Alyssa and the yet to be named third grandchild.NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby expresses sincere appreciation and congratulations to Detective Steve Booze for his more than twenty-one years of loyal and dedicated service to the City of Orange and wishes him a long, ADOPTED this 27'h day of February, 2007.
