RES-10335 Loyal Service Appreciation for Nora JacobRESOLUTION NO. 10335 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO NORA JACOB AND COMMENDING HER FOR OVER 8 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICES. WHEREAS, Nora Jacob has been employed with the City of Orange for over eight years, starting her journey on October 23, 2000 as a City Librarian for the Community & Library Services Department; and WHEREAS, in 2001 Nora began investigating possible funding from Proposition 14 to determine if the Orange Public Library was able to apply for and successfully receive Library Bond Act funds. Nora worked tirelessly attending workshops, kept current on written clarifications from the State and reviewed proposed requirements for eligibility; and WHEREAS, on July 1, 2002 Nora was promoted to Library Services Director and put at the helm to lead the newly re-established Library Services Department; and WHEREAS, after months and months of energetic dedication, long hours, lots of caffeine and sleepless nights, Nora completed the Library Bond Act matching grant application and it was submitted on June 14, 2002 with full Council and Community support; and WHERAS, in December 2002 the City of Orange was awarded $9.13 million in Library Bond Funding, thus beginning the implementation of the vision of the new 45,000 square foot Orange Public Library & History Center; and WHEREAS, for the next four years, Nora's "energizer bunny" vigor helped to create, organize, implement and participate in countless fundraisers - ranging from read a-thons to selling parking spaces and wonderful galas, all to raise matching funds for the Li ra y expansion project; and WHEREAS, the Orange Public Library & History Center opened its door on April 21, 2007 at 407 E. Chapman Avenue with a community celebration; and WHEREAS, Nora researched and led the efforts to implement a Library Development Impact Fee as a way to support capital improvements for the City's libraries, which have already brought in about $2 million - $1 million of which went toward paying the City's share of construction of the Orange Public Library &History Center; and WHEREAS, Nora jointly served as Executive Director of the Orange Public Library Foundation, which has already given the City $700,000 toward expansion and construction of the Orange Public Library & History Center with close to $1.3 million more donated or pledged in in-kind donations, bequests, and other privately funded gifts to the City; and WHEREAS, Nora has served as a leader, volunteer, supporter and as a fundraiser on several local organizations including the Orange Rotary Club, Woman's Club of Orange, Orange Public Library Foundation, Friends of the Orange Public Library, and the Library Board of Trustees; and WHEREAS, Nora has been a strong leader, a boss, a mentor, a friend, a colleague, a confidante, a worker, a dancer, a storyteller, and a team player always with a "can do attitude" which was highlighted as Nora was selected the NMA Orange Chapter"Manager of the Year"; and WHEREAS, Nora's writing skills have earned her the title of"Queen of Press Releases," always an advocate of the Orange Public Library working hard to bring recognition of the resources, staff and services provided while garnering admiration and praise from staff and her peers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Orange hereby extends sincere gratitude to Nora Jacob for her service to the citizens of the Orange community. Furthermore, we wish her the best as she looks forward to a fun-filled retirement where she can fully enjoy her hobbies of travel, hiking and spending time with her daughter Karly and her husband Cliff, and living by her motto, "It is what it is".
