A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO ROBERT VON SCHIMMELMANN OF THE
ORANGE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT AND
COMMENDING HIM FOR TWENTY YEARS OF
LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE.
WHEREAS, Robert Von Schimmelmann started his career in engineering 31 years ago
as a Structural Engineer and quickly realized the value of public service working for the City of
San Dimas and Sierra County; and
WHEREAS, Bob has worked for the City of Orange on and off since 1984, wearing so
many hats he can open a haberdashery; and
WHEREAS, while at Orange on three separate occasions, Bob held the positions of
Senior Civil Engineer, Principle Civil Engineer, Assistant City Engineer, Street Division
Manager and finally Deputy Public Works Field Operations; and
WHEREAS, Bob kept coming back to Orange because his roots in Orange go back to
his childhood, where his knowledge of the City and its residents have greatly helped to meet
the customer service needs of the community, and
WHEREAS, Bob has been instrumental in the management of environmental programs
and is the City's guru for regulating for fats, oils and grease, affectionately called the F.O.G.
Program; and
WHEREAS, under Bob's tenure in the Maintenance Division, additional activities
have been added to his plate including facilities, custodial, graffiti removal and signs and
striping; and
WHEREAS, Bob is a vital member of the Public Works management team, leading in
key areas such as operational effectiveness, environmental issues and safety; and
WHEREAS, Bob's optimistic attitude always gives new life to all projects and
activities in working with his fellow employees; and
WHEREAS, Bob treats all people with high regard and shows honest respect for
everyone he comes in contact with; and
WHEREAS, Bob's other talents include restaurant critic ("Eating Around Orange"),
African infrastructural Relief, golfing, and traveling.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of Orange
wishes to recognize Mr. Robert Von Schimmelmann for his years of dedication to Public
Works and public service and wish him and his wife Nancy many years of happy, healthy and
fulfilling retirement.
