A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE TEMPORARILY CLOSING
ATCHISON STREET FROM CHAPMAN AVENUE
TO MAPLE AVENUE, AND MAPLE AVENUE
WESTERLY OF CYPRESS STREET, FROM 12:00
NOON TO 9:00 P.M. THURSDAY, AUGUST 27, 2009;
FOR A SPECIAL EVENT AT THE ORANGE DEPOT.
WHEREAS, Vehicle Code Section 21100(E)(e) authorizes cities to close portions of
streets for celebrations and local special events when, in the opinion of the City Council, the
closing is necessary for the safety and protection of persons who are to use that portion of the
street during the temporary closing; and
WHEREAS, Orange County Transportation Authority has requested a temporary
closure of Atchison Street from Chapman Avenue to Maple Avenue; and Maple Avenue west
of Cypress Street, and
WHEREAS, Orange.' County Transportation Authority (OCTA) has agreed to
comply with the regulations governing celebrations in public places, that alcoholic beverages
on public streets 'are a violation of the law. The City Public Works Department will provide
all signing, barricades and traffic control necessary for the closure. The City will also notify
area residents and businesses of the event and temporary street closure in accordance with the
Police Department's directions; 12 feet of unobstructed access for emergency vehicles, will
be maintained.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Orange does resolve as
follows:
That Atchison Street from Chapman Ave. to Maple Ave., and Maple Ave.
westerly of Cypress Street, be closed from 12:00 Noon to 9:00 P.M. on
Thursday, August 27, 2009.
