RES-10389 Loyal Service Appreciation for Patti Van VoorstRESOLUTION NO. 10389 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO PATTI VAN VOORST AND COMMENDING HER FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE. WHEREAS, Patti van Voorst was hired at the City of Orange in June, 1979 as Secretary to the Management Services Director, a position she held for five years until the Management Services Director retired. She then assisted in 6 different departments during an ensuing hiring freeze. In 1983 she took a position in the Police Department, and shortly thereafter became Secretary to the Police Chief for 15 years. In April of 1998, she transferred to her current position as Executive Assistant to the Fire Chief; and WHEREAS, Patti served as NMA (National Management Association) Vice President 2006, NMA President 2007 and NMA Past President 2008. She was the first Orange City NMA Chapter member to be voted Member of the Year by the NMA Southern California Area Council, and WHEREAS, Patti was an Advisor to the City of Orange Law Enforcement Explorer Post, a Boy Scout Explorer Commissioner and Exploring Service Team member for fifteen years, and WHEREAS, Patti has acted as Secretary for the Orange County Fire Chiefs Association and for the past ten years has been recording secretary for the North Net Fire Training JPA. She is a member of the National Notary Association, National Association of Executive Secretaries and Administrative Assistants, National Management Association and the Administrative Fire Services Section of the California Fire Chiefs Association; and WHEREAS, Patti has graciously served as the event planner for most of the Fire Department events, including badge ceremonies and retirement luncheons, and assists the Firefighters Association with the annual retirement and Christmas parties. She was the Fire Department campaigner for the United Way campaign and has been the City of Orange United Way Campaign Coordinator. She was City of Orange Blood Drive Coordinator and was on the EMS Week Planning Committee working on Super CPR Day during which 2500 people were taught CPR in a single day; and WHEREAS, she holds a key position in the City of Orange Emergency Operation Center (EOC) to which she is responsible to respond at all times of the day and night to staff the EOC during disasters, and WHEREAS, Patti's extensive list of community and civic organizations, shows an ownership" of community and civic responsibility. She has been involved as a volunteer and fund raiser for the YMCA, Orange Relay for Life, Foundation Games, Orange Street Fair Committee and she recently joined the Assistance League of Orange. She has served on the boards of the YWCA, O.c. Explorer Advisors Association, Old Towne Preservation Association and the National Management Association. She is currently the Vice President of the Orange Kiwanis Club. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of Orange hereby extends sincere gratitude to Patti van Voorst for her service to the Orange community, and best wishes for a long, happy, and healthy retirement.
