RES-10429 Loyal Service Appreciation For Ed RoyceRESOLUTION NO. 10429 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE COMMENDING ED ROYCE FOR HIS DEDICATED SERVICE AS A CONGRESSMAN AND SENATOR AND FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED LIFETIME OF COMMUNITY SERVICE. WHEREAS, we are proud to acknowledge and commend Ed Royce on receiving the Community Champion Award from the Community Foundation of Orange for his lifetime of service to his community and to his country. WHEREAS, Ed is serving his 9th term in Congress representing Southern California's 40th District, based in Orange County. WHEREAS, Royce has a strong history of public service beginning in 1982 with his election to the California Senate where he was a champion of foster children and victims' rights and authored the nation's first anti-stalker law. Versions of his bill have been adopted in all 50 states.WHEREAS, in Congress, Ed has continued his support for children's issues and is a strong advocate for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. In 2003, he was active in passing Amber Alert legislation and legislation in 2004 to enhance rights for victims of crimes.WHEREAS, he was also the legislative author and campaign co- chairman of California's "Proposition 115", theCrime Victims/Speedy Trial Initiative. Royce wrote and passed the Interstate Stalking Punishment and Prevention Act which makes it a federal crime to pursue a victim across state lines.WHEREAS, Royce serves as a senior member of the Foreign Affairs and the Financial Services Committees. He has been named Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Terrorism,Nonproliferation and Trade and is at the forefront of some of the most important issues facing our country.WHEREAS, Royce sites on three Subcommittees on the Financial Services Committee and has served on the conference committees for some of the most significant legislation to the financial services arena.WHEREAS, Royce consistently earns honors and awards from organizations such as the National Taxpayers Union, Citizens Against GovernmentWaste, U.S. Chamber of Commerce,United Seniors Association and many more.WHEREAS, The City of Orange is very proud that Congressman Royce has moved his office to our city. After all, everyone knows that the County of Orange was built around the City of Orange! And everyone knows that Orange is "the place WHEREAS, We would like to offer our sincere appreciation for the lifetime achievement of Ed Royce and wish him and his wife Marie, many more years of significant contribution to our community and to our nation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Orange does hereby honor Ed Royce as he receives the Community Champion Award and wishes him continued success as he continues in service to others.
