A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO BARBARA MAGADDINO OF THE RISK
MANAGEMENT DIVISION OF THE HUMAN
RESOURCES DEPARTMENT FOR MORE THAN 13
YEARS OF VALUED, LOYAL AND DEDICATED
SERVICE.
WHEREAS, Barbara Magaddino started her career with the City of Orange on July 8
1996, as a part-time Administrative Clerk 11 in the Risk Management Division of the City'
s Human Resources Department. She was quickly promoted to various positions and finally
in June 2005, due to her outstanding performance and commendations, Barbara was
promoted to the new classification of Risk Management Analyst;
and WHEREAS, Barbara earned her Bachelor's Degree from Virginia Tech (
Go Hokies!) and through continued professional development and dedication to the goals of
the City was awarded the distinguished Associates Degree in Risk Managementdesig~
iation from the Insurance Institute of America;
and WHEREAS, Barbara distinguished herself in becoming the City's ``ergonomic
guru"by helping employees balance existing office furniture with the ever-changing
world of computers and equipment. Barbara designed employee workstations,
conducted ergonomic training programs and advised employees on how to work
pain-free; and WHEREAS, Barbara, always dedicated to the City, enjoyed learning
new things and was the first to accept new assignments. She understood the need for
a strong risk management commitment while supporting the welfare of City
employees. Barbara worked in the two-person Risk Management Division located at the City'
s Corporation Yard and ingratiated herself with outside consultants and employees who know
her as the bubbly,thoughtful, go-to link between them and the procedures of
the City's risk management programs
and workers compensation laws; and WHEREAS, highlights of Barbara's successes include her
leadership with the City's work compensation and insurance certificate programs, coordinator
of the City's ergonomic program, and who, in her spare time, administered the boot
slip program, driver's license program and who went out of her way to solve problems and
keep her boss, the Risk Manager,
out of hot water; and WHEREAS, Barbara might be most congratulated for
her unending gifts of laughter.With `Southern hospitality and sensibilities' she always made
everyone feel as though they received great consideration and attention -because they had.
She has an endearing ability to believably `sell' whatever the training theme, either
by donning protective clothing, gloves and masks or when teaching new summer recreation employees the `in
and outs' of first aid practices. Barbara's ability to influence without enflaming
and to disagree without being disagreeable are qualities she says she developed by being a wife and
the mom of four -yet,are qualities which make
WHEREAS, Barbara worked tirelessly on the Board of the City's National
Management Association in many capacities and was nominated for NMA's Professional of
the Year. Barbara will be sorely missed not only by the Human Resources staff, but by the
many City staff she has worked with.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council, on behalf of the
employees and citizens of the City of Orange, hereby express to Barbara Magaddino
appreciation for over 13 years of loyal, valued and dedicated service and wish Barbara and
her husband, Joe many years of happy, healthy and fulfilling retirement.
