A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO JANICE MCGOVNEY OF THE COMMUNITY
SERVICES DEPARTMENT FOR 20 YEARS OF
VALUED, LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE.
WHEREAS, Jan McGovney started her career with the City of Orange at the Orange
Public Library on February 20, 1990; and was officially hired as an Administrative Secretary
at the Library on December 31, 1990. In 1993, Community Services and Library Services
Departments combined and Jan became Department Secretary for the newly combined
department. She stayed with Community Services when someone decided that Recreation
and quiet Libraries were not a good fit, and these Departments returned to their own
individual status in 2004; and
WHEREAS, Jan efficiently and effectively assisted the Community Services
Department as Executive Assistant to the Director and Management Staff, and continually
added to her list of responsibilities through the years. Jan was in charge of personnel and
new hire tracking, website maintenance, special project assistant, budget coordinating team,
Safety Committee and ARMS Committee representative, unofficial Department Historian,
and Gal Friday for the Parks Division on Mondays; and
WHEREAS, Jan has played a special role in the City's community -wide special
events for years, coordinating the RSVPs of our VIPs and making sure that our special guests
felt special; and
WHEREAS, Jan is known for her excellent customer service and upbeat approach -
even when answering such questions as "What time is my 3 o'clock meeting ? "; and
WHEREAS, Jan has always endeavored to improve her knowledge and expand her
skills and talents. She has been active in the International Association of Administrative
Professionals, Orange Empire Chapter, earning the distinction of Certified Professional
Secretary and Certified Administrative Professional in 2009; and served many years as
various chapter officers. One of Jan's proudest accomplishments has been earning her
Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature from Chapman University as a City of Orange
scholarship recipient; and
WHEREAS, Jan has been an active member of the National Management
Association and Toastmasters. She has worked to further the concept of self - improvement
and recognition and, as such, garnered two Star Awards for her professionalism and excellent
customer service; and
WHEREAS, as a long time dedicated resident of Orange, in this next chapter in her
life Jan intends to pursue and cultivate her interests such as zumba dancing, crocheting,
attending Elton John Concerts, playing the piano, traveling and, last but not least, being an
exemplary Grandmother and mother.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council, on behalf of the
employees and citizens of the City of Orange, hereby express to Janice McGovney
appreciation for 20 years of loyal, valued and dedicated service and wish Jan many years of a
happy, healthy and fulfilling retirement.
