RES-10559 Loyal Service Appreciation For Ronald AcostaRESOLUTION NO. 10559 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO RONALD ACOSTA OF THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT AND COMMENDING HIM FOR MORE THAN 35 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE. WHEREAS, Ron Acosta grew up in the City of Orange on Walnut Street, with his parents and 13 siblings, attended Sycamore Elementary, Portola Middle and Orange High School and participated in wrestling and basketball; and WHEREAS, Ron began his career with the City of Orange in October of 1975 as a Maintenance Aide in the Community Services Department and was promoted to Tree Trimmer in 1977; and WHEREAS, in April 1979 Ron finally saw the light and transferred to the Public Works Department as a Maintenance Worker, with promotions in 1981 to Concrete Finisher and in 1999 to Public Works Maintenance Leadworker; and WHEREAS, little did Ron know that by stating on his first City job application outside work of any kind" that he would be working outside for the next 35 years. WHEREAS, Ron has consistently served the City with a great safety record and has made himself very valuable, knowing nearly all aspects of the Maintenance Division from concrete, sewer, trees, graffiti and general maintenance activities; and WHEREAS, Ron's knowledge of maintenance activities has made him one of the foremost trainers of many of the younger Maintenance Division employees; and WHEREAS, Ron's fellow workers have bestowed numerous nicknames on him including: "Scrawny Ronnie ", "Wishbone ", and "Soupbone." Although most of his nicknames go hand -in -hand with his physique, his fellow workers are amazed at the volume of food Ron can put away and he even has a reputation of bringing a wheelbarrow to work to carry his lunch; and WHEREAS, Ron is so skinny that he often was sent down into the sewers and storm drains to clean them because he could fit in the tight spaces; and WHEREAS, Ron plans to improve his golf game, wearing his favorite outfit of a pink golf shirt and powder blue trousers. Ron may showcase his unique golf skills including his famous wiggle /waggle golf swing; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council, on behalf of the employees and citizens of the City of Orange, hereby express to Ronald Acosta appreciation for over 35 years of loyal and dedicated service and wish Ron and his wife, Robin, a happy and fulfilling retirement.
