RES-10579 Loyal Service Appreciation For Mark CamarilloRESOLUTION NO. 10579 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO CORPORAL MARK CAMARILLO OF THE ORANGE POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR 25 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE. WHEREAS, in December of 1986, Mark Camarillo began a long and rewarding career with the City of Orange Police Department; and WHEREAS, two years later, in January of 1988, Mark was chosen for the special assignment of motor officer. In this assignment, he took on the task of coordinating the Department's bicycle safety program. This opportunity put Mark in contact with many of the City's elementary students and earned the traffic unit and him high praise from school officials and parents. As a motor officer, Mark was recognized by his supervisors for his strong observation skills, numerous arrests and the investigations he conducted; and WHEREAS, in October of 1990, Mark became a detective and was assigned to the theft and burglary detail. His supervisors described him as conscientious and diligent and noted his enthusiasm for the assignment; as well as, his ability to be a team player. In March 1991, Mark's strong work ethic, his reputation as a natural leader, trustworthiness and reliability earned him an assignment to the narcotics unit. During his tenure as a narcotics investigator, Mark received numerous accolades from his supervisors and was identified as one of the highest producing investigators in the unit. He excelled in undercover work and consistently volunteered to be the "buyer" on high risk and dangerous narcotic investigations. During this time, Mark was the case agent on a seizure of twenty -eight pounds of methamphetamine; and WHEREAS, in February 1994, Mark was recognized as the Detective Bureau Employee of the month. Soon after receiving this award, Mark's hard work and diligent case preparation garnered him a two -year assignment to the Regional Narcotics Suppression Program, known as "RNSP." In July 1996, he returned to the Department's narcotic unit and, two years later, helped it receive the Orange County Narcotic Officer's Association Unit of the Year award for 1998; and WHEREAS, Mark returned to patrol in May of 1998; where he shared his experience with the officers he trained and utilized his detective skills as a crime scene investigator. In March 2000, the skills of a highly trained undercover officer were needed by a task force to buy stolen property and Mark was once again chosen to fill this role. His efforts were instrumental in developing informants and identifying burglars and thieves throughout Orange County; and WHEREAS, in November 2000, Mark started what would be his final assignment with the Orange Police Department when he returned to the traffic bureau as a motor officer. He was promoted to motor corporal in October 2001 and, in this capacity, supervised crossing guards, coordinated all driver's license and DUI checkpoints, and trained other motor officers in motorcycle operation. He was commended by Chief Gustafson in June 2005 for receiving the Mothers Against Drunk Drivers Excellence in Investigation Award and was chosen as Officer of the Month for June 2006. On October 6, 2011, Mark Camarillo retires from the Orange Police Department after 25 years of service. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council, on behalf of the employees and citizens of the City of Orange, hereby expresses our appreciation to Corporal Mark Camarillo for his 25 years of dedicated service to the Orange Police Department and the City of Orange community, and wish him much happiness and success in his future.
