A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO FIRE ENGINEER KEVIN KELSO OF THE
ORANGE CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR
THIRTY -ONE YEARS OF LOYAL AND
DEDICATED SERVICE.
WHEREAS, in 1980 Kevin was hired as a Firefighter for the Orange City Fire
Department, and was promoted to Fire Engineer in 1999; and
WHEREAS, Kevin was known as the Master of Art and Design for the OFD
throughout his career; and
WHEREAS, Kevin painted the artwork used for the Fire Department billboard that
was displayed on Katella Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Kevin designed the logos for the uniform t- shirts, hats, and fitness
clothing that were worn by OFD members for more than 15 years; and
WHEREAS, Kevin designed the current OFD uniform patch; and
WHEREAS, Kevin designed a bronze statue, signifying the passing of responsibility
from the old to the new, for the Fire Department's centennial celebration; and
WHEREAS, Kevin served on the station design committee for many years. His
largest accomplishment was in the design of Fire Station 8. He also contributed to the
conceptual drawings of the new Fire Station 1 proposed for Water Street; and
WHEREAS, Kevin was an architect and assisted the Department with design of the
dorm remodel projects at Fire Stations 3 and 4; and
WHEREAS, Kevin had a significant near -miss incident at a fire in an abandoned
school in the mid- 1980's. He fell through the roof into a burning attic while performing
rooftop ventilation operations. Kevin used this situation to train other Fire Service personnel
by producing a lessons - learned video.
NOW, THEREFORE, on the occasion of his retirement from the City of Orange, we
wish to recognize Kevin Kelso for over 31 years of dedication to the Fire Department and
public service. We wish Kevin and his family many years of a happiness, health, and
fulfillment during retirement.
