A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE REGARDING THE 2011
CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY CLOSURE.
WHEREAS, in the calendar year 2011, the holidays of Christmas and New Year's
Day fall on Sundays and are currently provided to City employees as paid holidays (to be
observed on the following Mondays); and,
WHEREAS, all benefited, full -time City employees are provided with one day of
paid holiday leave on Christmas Day (December 25, 2011 to be observed on Monday,
December 26, 2011), and one day of paid holiday leave on New Year's Day (January 1, 2012
to be observed on Monday, January 2, 2012); and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to express its sincere appreciation to City
employees for their dedicated service to the City and its citizens throughout the year; and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the value of time spent with families during
the holiday season; and
WHEREAS, City services, except public safety, are closed for Friday, December 23,
2011 (regular day off), Monday, December 26, 2011 (Christmas Day observed), Friday,
December 30, 2011 (furlough Friday), Monday, January 2, 2012 (New Year's Day
observed); and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to effectively accommodate time -off requests
by City employees during the holidays
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of
Orange does hereby grant the following:
Notwithstanding public safety and other emergency call -out services, City
facilities will be closed at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2011 through
Monday, January 2, 2012. The City will return to full service on Tuesday,
January 3, 2012; and
The City's public libraries' operating hours will be closing effective 6:00 p.m.
on Thursday, December 22, 2011, and will reopen to regular operating hours
effective Tuesday, January 3, 2012; and
City employees will be required to utilize their own accrued paid leave hours
i.e., vacation, compensatory time, holiday compensatory time, administrative
leave, TRP, and/or floating holiday) to cover the holiday closures on Tuesday,
December 27, Wednesday, December 28, and Thursday, December 29, 2011.
