RES-10609 Loyal Service Appreciation For Jim ReichertRESOLUTION NO. 10609 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO JIM REICHERT, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR AND ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE ORANGE REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY, AND COMMENDING HIM FOR MORE THAN THIRTY -SEVEN YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITY OF ORANGE. WHEREAS, a young James "Jim" Reichert, a recent veteran of the United States Navy, began his career as a Planning Intern in the City's Planning Department in January 1974, leading to his life career that has spanned over thirty -seven plus years with the City of Orange, including 13 separate job titles, and working in Planning, Economic Development and Redevelopment; and WHEREAS, through Jim's guidance in the mid -90's, the Agency implemented the Unreinforced Masonry Program to fund seismic work of unreinforced masonry buildings in Old Towne preserving these historic treasures and marking the beginning of the transformation of the largest historic district in the State of California into what is now repeatedly voted Orange County's No. 1 Downtown destination to shop and dine; and WHEREAS, one of Jim's greatest career achievements is leading the City's team in negotiating the redevelopment of a shuttered City Shopping Center to what is now known as one of the premier Southern California outlet shopping destinations "The Outlets at Orange "; and WHEREAS, Jim will be most remembered for his abilities to forge valuable relationships with the business and development community that helped the City retain and attract quality businesses, making Orange one of the strongest and most desirable marketplaces in Orange County; and WHEREAS, in Jim's duel capacity as the Economic Development Director and the Assistant Executive Director to the Orange Redevelopment Agency, he has overseen the redevelopment of two regional malls, various auto dealerships, retail shopping centers, and countless public infrastructure projects; the revitalization of our historic Old Towne Orange, and the rehabilitation, construction, and preservation of affordable housing; and WHEREAS, Jim has been a valuable member of the City of Orange Executive Management Team, working hard to foster a high level of teamwork and cooperation across all departments. His humor, friendship, camaraderie, and historical knowledge will be greatly missed by the Executive Team; and WHEREAS, Jim's dedication to the City of Orange is only surpassed by his devotion to his family as the proud father of four and grandfather of three (and counting) and his City family, the Economic Development staff who will fondly remember Jim as a supportive leader and great listener empowering his team to be innovative and collaborative; and NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Orange expresses sincere appreciation and congratulations to Jim Reichert for his over 37 Years of loyal and dedicated service to the City of Orange, and wishes Jim and his wife Jan, a happy, healthy, and fulfilling retirement as they continue to travel around the globe creating new adventures together.
