A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO EDWARD M. KNIGHT OF THE COMMUNITY
DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT AND
COMMENDING HIM FOR SIX AND ONE -HALF
YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO
THE CITY OF ORANGE AND OVER THIRTY
YEARS TO THE PLANNING PROFESSION.
WHEREAS, in September 2003, Ed was hired as a Consultant while working for
Hogle- Ireland for the primary purpose of overseeing the planning services for East
Orange /Santiago Hills II (SH II). He brought years of planning experience to this position as
Ed had previously worked for the cities of Tustin, Seal Beach, Dana Point and Malibu having
served as the Director in the last three; and
WHEREAS, Ed was selected for the position of Principal Planner in June of 2004
where his primary responsibilities included the planning and processing of the East
Orange /Santiago Hills II project as presented by the Irvine Company; and
WHEREAS, Ed was soon promoted to the position of Assistant Planning Director
and later reclassified to the position of Assistant Community Development Director; and
WHEREAS, Ed was responsible for reviewing all the staff reports going to the
Planning Commission, Design Review Committee and Zoning Administrator, helping to
move ahead the Comprehensive General Plan Update and keeping track of the department's
budget; and
WHEREAS, during Ed's time with the Planning Division, he reigned over the
Planning Commission meetings and was the "go to" Staff guy with responsibility for
clarifying or answering any questions or concerns the Planning Commissioners had; and
WHEREAS, Ed served as the resident "guru" for the Trakit Computer System
utilized by Community Development staff for keeping track of their respective projects; and
WHEREAS, Ed is a team player with a strong drive to provide the best service to the
City and the Community; and
WHEREAS, Ed is a long -time Orange resident having lived here most of his
Planning career; and
NOW, THEREFORE, on the occasion of his retirement from the City of Orange, we
wish to recognize Edward M. Knight for 6 -1/2 years of dedication to the Community
Development Department. We wish Ed, his wife Sue, son Andrew and daughter Wendy
many years of happiness, health, and fulfillment during retirement.
