RES-10642 Loyal Service Appreciation For David De BerryRESOLUTION NO. 10642 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO DAVID DE BERRY COMMENDING HIM FOR EIGHTEEN YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITY OF ORANGE. WHEREAS, David began his career at the City of Orange in 1994 as an Assistant City Attorney before being appointed by the City Council to the position of City Attorney in 1997. David has been an integral part of the City's success over the past 15 years providing legal counsel and advice; and WHEREAS, David hit the ground running as City Attorney assuming the position at the same time the City discovered fraud and mismanagement in the administration of its trash contract. At the Council's direction, David led the effort to recover the losses and ultimately returned millions of dollars which the City Council used to subsidize resident and business trash rates for over ten years; and WHEREAS, David is well known for his boundless energy both in the office and out. David's vacations, anniversary celebrations or relaxing weekend get -a -ways might include century bike rides, ATV trips through the middle of Arizona or mountain biking in Moab. David's office staff would look forward to the Monday morning injury report to see if there were any new scars, bandages or upcoming surgeries scheduled as a result of his weekend activities; and WHEREAS, David has a love for writing and has never shied away from an opportunity to display his poetic prose. He is known and admired throughout the State for the aggressive ordinances he authored regarding sober living facilities, boarding houses, unruly parties, and day laborers; and WHEREAS, in addition to his City Attorney duties, David also has volunteered to serve as General Counsel for the North Net Joint Powers Fire Training Authority, twice as the President of the Orange County City Attorneys Association, and on other statewide committees; and WHEREAS, notwithstanding all of his other accolades and accomplishments, David will be best known and most sorely missed by this City Council for the honesty, integrity, advice and counsel that he has provided the past 18 years. The confidence David has provided current and past councils in performing their duties can't be overstated and will be difficult to replace. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of Orange, expresses sincere appreciation to David De Berry and extends its best wishes as he embarks on new and exciting adventures and challenges both professionally and personally.
